Questions about Shakes, Biotin, and Photographs
I have three separate questions and I figured I'd just ask them all together.
If someone who's had the surgery done has a free minute or two could you look at these three drinks and let me know if they would be ok to use after surgery?
Shake- http://www.reliv.com/includes/labels...1206473256.pdf
Herb- http://www.reliv.com/includes/labels...1206477851.pdf
Fiber- http://www.reliv.com/includes/userfiles/Fibrestore.pdf
I would really like to use this brand if I can because it has made a really big difference in my life already and I think if I can stay with it, it would just be the best thing for me.
My next question is.... I am going to be taking biotin and silica complex. I wanted to know if people usually swallow the biotin, crush it, or chew it right after surgery.
The last question is about photographs. I am so nosy. I have been looking at as many hospital pictures as I can(on here). I've also seen lots of great before and after pictures but I wondered if anyone had pictures I could see of belly skin AFTER the weight loss. I have heard that there is extra skin and that sometimes it hurts but I'm really just curious to see what it looks like. I may sound odd but hey, you haven't seen my pooch.
I feel like as the day gets closer I have more and more questions! Tuesday, at our third appointment, I asked my surgeon all of the questions from 'Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies." When she was done answering I asked her if she minded all the time I'd spent asking them. She laughed and said. "I just don't know why you waited until now to ask them Candy."
I guess it's nerves.

I would highly suggest that you run those supplements past your surgeon &/or nutritionist. See how they feel about them. I looked at the shake information and personally I know my nutritionist would have suggested trying something different but yours may feel differently. My instructions were to use a whey or soy isolate. It is the most absorbable form of protein and has a complete amino acid profile. Also my concern is that there is only 10 grams of protein in a serving. If you use that as your primary protein source you may have a problem getting in all your protein.
In regards to the herb and fiber supplements? I would certainly run those past your surgeon.
About pictures? I do have some pre-plastic surgery pictures. My extra skin issue was pretty extensive but you do have to realize that there are a lot of factors that play into it. First of all age, length of time I was obese and the fact that I had 3 pregnancies during my years of obesity. Your situation might be entirely different. If yo do want to see them they are on my profile in the album area. Just look for the album about my plastic surgery journey.

I second Milady. For sure have your doctor and nut. look at these. I agree that only 10 grams of protein is pretty low. You would ideally want to find something with at least 18-20 per scoop. I use unflavored Unjury, 20 per scoop, then I use milk so I am gettin 28 grams of protein in one shake. The shakes are meant for protein so you want LOTS of it. If you like these flavors maybe try adding them to the unflavored unjury for taste. It is great that you found a flavor you like, but also keep in mind that your tastes change after surgery as well. :O) Keep us posted. You are well on your way. ;O)
P.S. As far as herbs, you have to be real careful with them. I am told to take nothing but my vitamins. I try to even stay away from tylenol, etc. Not worth the headache!

MiladyB and 88Shelly88, thank you for getting back to me. I will talk to the nutritionist about the this stuff. For some reason when I looked at that shake I thought there was more protein. It really isn't the taste, I haven't ever tasted this drink but the cocktail of vitamins that are in it has helped improve my health quite a bit in the past two years. They have another product though that I have been given permission to mix into the higher dosed protein shakes so I'll just go for that.
MiladyB, I am interested in seeing your pictures. Thank you for the preface.

I can speak to the biotin issue. I have been taking it for the past several months, started about 2-3 months pre-op. I was able to swallow them without a problem about 2 weeks post-op. Course, mine are really really small tablets.
