Default Sleeve Gastroplasty

We had a post from Australia and this was the procedure she has chosen to have so I researched a little and thought I would let everyone know what it is.

Sleeve Gastroplasty
Purely restrictive procedure. In this procedure the upper stomach is stapled vertically for about 2 1/2 inches (6 cm) to create a smaller stomach pouch. The outlet from the pouch is restricted by a band or ring that slows the emptying of food and thus creates a feeling of fullness. The advantages are that most patients keep off 50% of their excess weight (10 yr study) and nutrients and vitamins can be fully absorbed.

Just thought since we have a member having this procedure we should at least know the basics.

Thanks Amber,
I wonder if that is the same as the "mini gastric bypass".

Thanks for the info Amber. I was kind of scratching my head wondering what Sleeve Gastroplasty was. I think the ring is called a Foubi pouch. Great to stay educated when it comes to our other members. I also think it is great that Sleeve Gastroplasty is an option because there are some who are barley over the 40 BMI but are still over weight and uncomfortable with co-morbids.

Hey Guys......

I'm the one from Australia...and im having the Sleeve Gastroplasty....

Amber...you got it spot on mate......

I went with the sleeve because i am quite young (18) with a BMI of 38....

So because i can still absorb nutrients after the op, i thought it would be great for me.....

Plus i only need to lose about 80 pounds and i'll be normal & about a size
8-10 (Aus Size)....

So yeah i am heaps excited and my surgery date is scheduleD on the 11th july....which is not far away!....

HEHEHE.... Thank's Guys....

I am happy you guys can except me, even though i am having the "unknown" to most of the members in here.... However, it's great to educate people....

Thanks alot..

Hugs & Kisses....

; )
