Please keep me in your prayers that I can give them up. Thanks for your replys. I am enjoying reading all of the questions and responses everyday. This site is so great and anwers so many questions. Thanks again.

I gave up diet coke over a month ago. I decided to have one last weekend and it was nasty. The carbonation burned my mouth, and I have no desire to repeat the process. I'm pre-op, and plan to do whatever it takes to lose the weight and keep it off.

Brilliant!
That was an excellent read and made so much sense. A friend of mine had WLS in 98 and has gained all but 20 pounds back, by not exercising, eating wrong and not changing her lifestyle at all. She wasted her time and insurance money and is not happy at all but does nothing to change it. Do you think she could do some of the rules and possibly lose weight again?
I was supposed to be having my WLS on/around July 8th, but now I have to see my therapist for a couple sessions before they turn in the paperwork to insurance, so maybe August? The waiting is killing me. I went off the liquid diet (to shrink my liver) and I am trying to quit smoking and I just want to get on with things. This site is so amazing for me and reading all of your stories is so fantastic. Thanks for your knowledge and i will still be looking in every day to read something new and interesting.

The rules must be followed and followed for life. i have a friend who is also eating whatever whenever and i told her she was making bad choices, she doesn't care. So her problem not mine. My nutrionist said an OCCASIONAL piece of FRESH corn on the cob is not a bad choice. However, the big rule (in my opinion) is PROTEIN FIRST, Veggies second. You can have wls and make good choices and you'll do fine. Don't let her silliness deter you.

This is the way I look at it:
If your sister had a dog and was abusing the dog daily, would it make you abuse a dog if you were to go get one.
NO WAY.
It shows you just how not to be with with your dog. In fact you would treat your dog right and do it in front of your sister in the hopes it might rub off on her.
I know this is a crude metaphor, but it works for me.
This is exactly my thought process with children. I see so many people treat their kids wrong, I have a book in my head of what I'll never do to my kids when I have them.
Hope this helps just a little!

Gerry, that's an excellent analogy! There's certainly nothing wrong with learning from others' mistakes.

I have heard many success stories of people who have gone off the wagon in WLS only to return following the Pouch rules for dummies and started and continue to loss weight by following the rules.
just know that these are the rules for 1 year post op. My goal is gradually work up to these rules so that by the time I am 1 year post of (which is about 61/2 months from now) I will be set to go with the rules.
