Default To all those facing their Gastric Bypass operation in February ...

Hi
I am Corinna and am facing my big day on 9 February. I have come across two another members who are due in February. It would be great if we could keep in touch and help each through this rather scary experience.

I live in Vienna, Austria. Its not like in other countries where you have huge support groups, and thus discovering this site was a life saver. I was driving my Doctor nuts with questions and fears, and am surprised he is even talking to me anymore .... the poor guy !!! he is actually fabulous, and spent an afternoon with me drinking coffee just to calm me down. Every time he told me "dont worry", I worried more ..lol Typical female here !!! He is the best surgeon in Austria and one of the nicest possible people I know. No complaints about him at all .. I am the hysterical one here

Anyway, to cut a long story short, discovering this site has really changed my attitude, many of my fears are lessened. To start with its great to see the humour. Some of the posts are so funny and humour is the best antidote to fear. Secondly, many situations can be dealt with medically, but perhaps for women in particular, the change inside is perhaps the most important one. Its great to see women talk openly about their sexuality, their feelings, their relationships after they have undergone this trememdous change in their lives.

Anyway a heartfelt thanks to all who maintain this forum, I will recommend it to my Doctor .. it may save him psychiatric bills in having to deal with me

Do get in touch if you are due in February. To all I wish the very best of luck

Corinna

Hej Corinna!
Welcome to the amazing world of Thinner Times!
Try to get in touch with member Chaleur who has just joined and whose surgery is coming up close to yours too. She lives in Austria and could also do with a friendly supporter!
Best wishes and keep reading the many sections of this forum.
You will find the Welcome Guide to Newbies from GWEN very useful.
An important point, European RNY is done slightly differently from the US. We are able to eat before we leave the hospital!!!
Keep us updated on how you are doing!
Cheers,
Vim

Hi Corrina
My name is Stacey and I am scheduled to have my lap RNY done on Feb 20 - and can hardly wait. I am brand new to this site and am excited to meet friends, share experiences and make the most of this exciting but scary uncharted territory for me.

Keep me posted on how you are doing.

Stacey

Welcome Corinna!

Lynda posts a monthly "stapler's" list - she'll be doing February's soon I'm sure.

You can always send her a PM, give her your surgery date and ask her to add you to the list. Her ID is LyndasRoom.

For the first time I feel that others understand and that dreadful feeling of isolation, weight associated sense of shame and fear is slowly dissipating. You are all just wonderful

Default Feb 9th Surgery date, too

Hi,

I just posted a new thread introducing myself, but then found yours and wanted to make the connection. I, too, am scheduled for my Roux en-Y on Feb 9th.

Though there are some here (army base in Seoul, Korea) that have had the surgery, I've met 2, there isn't a support group, yet. I do have support from and interest in forming one from not only my surgeon, but the dietician, psychologist and even the nurse that assisted with my scopes. All wonderful and supportive professionals willing to help me get the support group going. I say all this, because maybe all that is needed in your area to start one is you! Maybe you can look into getting a group started not only for yourself, but all those to follow. Even though you don't have access to who has had or looking at having the surgery, you can offer your name and contact information to the medical professionals and ask them to pass it on to whomever would be interested.

Well, I didn't think that is why I was replying to your thread, but there it is, lol. I pray that your surgery is a safe and successful one and that you find all the support you need if not at your home then here in this wonderful forum. I know this place has been a Godsend to me and I am looking forward to using it and maybe helping others some day.
