Default I cant do this any more

I had surgery Dec 3rd and was doing somewhat fine until week three when I was able to introduce "foods" back into my routine. Ever since the first meal I tried to eat, I cant keep it down. The foamies visit, I wrench my tummy almost before I can leave the table, etc. So right now I am living off of protein bars at 110 calories, Vit water or Crystal Light, and maybe 1 sm packet of instant oatmeal if I am lucky. Refried beans stay down sometimes...protein shakes and I arent so friendly right now although I am going to do my best to work them back in tomorrow. I am not sure I can do this much longer. The feeling of the sickies is hard too tolerate. I am so beside myself and am not sure what to do. I see my Dr on Tuesday and have called. The Dr told me to just eat soft foods and soups again till I see him. As I write this, I am so sick and running back and forth to get rid of everything. Who'd know that eating so little would make me pray to the porcelain god so frequently. What is killing me is working 12-14 hrs or more a day and having very little to sustain on. I do not get hungry really but know my bpody needs nourishment. Even though it is only 5 weeks tomorrow and I am down about 60 pounds, anytime I eat or have to eat something, I regret the surgery. Is there anything I can do to try to feel better and get more protein in and not spit up anything that tou8ches my lips? I am at my wits end and feel like I am alone in this....

it sucks, but... it only sucks for now.

I'm sure your doctor will be able to diagnose and hopefully treat the problem once you see him, till then just focus on your long term goals... being miserable for a couple more days or being healthy for life?

I know...for the last 2.5 hours I have been wreching and hope it ends soon. We are all so different. Some can eat right away with no issues and then some of us can barely hold water down...uugh! I know it is leading to a healthier road, just wish it would get past the ickies sooner than later.

Thumbs up Reglan

I had the same problems. That was not fun.
My PCP gave me Reglan to stop the "wreching".
I still take it, but only when I get that feeling, or anytime I go out to eat. That is usually when need the extra relief...
I took 2 about 1/2 hour before Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Good luck...
Better living though supplementation!

I will call my Dr and ask about reglan. Isnt it true that we have to have more protein (fuel) in our bodies to lose weight? I am fearful that I am doing something bad to my body because of the lack of protein and essential nutrients.

You're OK... it's only been 5 weeks. Above all hydrate!

What kind of foods were you trying to introduce?

What kinds of foods are you eating now?

It's possible that you jumped the substance gun too soon for your pouch. Remember, at 3 weeks you're still healing inside, at above 5 weeks, the healing is done... but that doesn't mean you can dance salsa without learning how to swing your hips.

If you can't tolerate foods with substance, eat soft and pureed foods for a few weeks longer. There are plenty of recipes in the recipe section to help get you variety through this rough period.

What about protein shakes?... there are plenty of recipes for them too.

Bringing this to the docs attention is the best thing... Perhaps you have a form of stricture, perhaps not. But you shouldn't be kneeling at the altar this much.

Feel better... it will pass. There is a 'feeling normal' again time to come.

Boy I feel for you~ I am about 7 months out and this first month or so was pure hell! I can sympathize. But the good news....once this time passes, and it will, the fun is ahead. You will really be able to start enjoying the new healthy you! I cried many tears the first month or so and had my doubts about what I had done and now I would not change it for the world! Remember what you are going through now is temporary but being healthier is for life! You can do it! We are all here rootin you on!

My concerns are possibility of a stricture or an ulcer. Or it could be that your body is just taking longer to learn your new digestive system. I would suggest doing what your doctor said. Go back to the soft mushy foods. Sometimes if we piss off our pouch it stays mad at us for awhile. If going back to the soft foods doesn't help, call your doctor again. He may be able to order you Reglan or Phenergan for the nausea. How are you doing with your fluids? Are you keeping those down? Major concern is dehydration if you aren't drinking. Just don't sit on this too long. If you have to be a pain in the backside to get into your doc before Tuesday, then be one. If you are feeling dehydrated and your doc isn't doing much of anything for you, then get into the ER.

Default Wits end

My Dr put me on OTC Prilosec when I had those issues and it worked wonders for me. Also during the first month I was sent home with instructions to take Pepcid AC twice aday.
