Oh how I feel for you. I am nauseous a lot. If I don't eat I get nauseous if I drink water I get nauseous. Luckily I have only had one instance of praying to the porcelain gods. I know I am not getting in all my protein and as for liquids I am still using SF Popsicles and jello. I know this is not the ideal but I am not going to put more stress on myself.
I say take it one day at a time and keep in touch with your Dr. so they can advise of other courses of treatment.

Hey there, let us know how things go. It could be a number of different things so the best person to help you out is the doctor. Everybody reacts a little different to the surgery. I myself was on pureed foods for at least 6 weeks and any time I tried to sneak in a soft food, that did NOT sit well. It could be that the soft foods are a little too much for you now or it could be some other issue. Don't panic. You will be okay. I have a pretty tolerant pouch and have had no problems but I'm pregnant now and I struggle with a lot of those same things right now like getting the protein in, foamies, and am taking zoffran (another antiemetic aka antinausea drug) to help. So I can feel your pain with the frequent praying to the porcelain goddess. I hope you can get things settled soon.

Making an appt tomorrow...
I called my Dr after hours tonight aftr having an issue with a small piece of banana. He thinks I may have a stricture and wants me to schedule an exam and some tests to determine and correct the issue. If this is so, from all I have read from everyone, then maybe it explains why I was having severe pains after surgery more than normal. The scar tissue did do some funny healing if this is all correct. I am praying I can get in for an appt and if able to correct the issue Friday. After eating nothing, I think I am gaining weight (??? how is this feasible????). I am trying to reintroduce the protein shake as I type this...hoping it sits.
Thank you for being here for me. I know we all experience similar things but sometimes it feels like you are the only one that is experiencing all of this..and then you remember that there are wonderful people like all of you that have been here, done that, etc.

Vomiting non stop isn't good. Doc was always concerned IF I vomited and how often. Perhaps it's stricture for you as well. CALL your DOC, ASAP... you may be in the same position as Natalie.
Beth... can stricture develop even if you're 6 months or more out? or is it just the possibility of under 3 months?

Hi Marella. I'm not saying a stricture can never happen 6 months postop but it is pretty unlikely. If a person is having frequent nausea and vomiting that far out I would be more concerned that they may have an ulcer or bowel obstruction.

For anyone who went through a stricture issue, what did you experience? I have an appt at the hospital Tuesday Jan 13th to take care of it. I hope I am in and out within a few hours as I am so ready for this to be fixed. How soon before you were able to introduce real foods? I tried to read up on strictures to see if it matches my symptoms.
Hope everyone is well....It has been a long week!

Had my RNY 12/2 and had to have an endoscope to correct a stricture on 12/31. Symptoms were not being able to keep much of anything down, vomiting, and nausea. My stoma was dilated from 3.5mm to 13mm. Doing better now and the endoscope was a relatively easy outpatient procedure. If all you have is a stricture I'd guess you will be feeling better soon. Good luck to you.

First of all, DO not listen to anyone telling you that vomiting is "normal", it is not, and its a sign that something is wrong, I dont care how far out you are...period, so that said, you made the right move by calling the doctor, the only thing I would have done would have been to really drive home the fact that you need help NOW, waiting two weeks for an appointment is too long....
Good luck and let us know.....
