Default A day in your life????

So I am thinking about the surgery and made the first step to talk to my PCP on the 12th. Hopefully the new year starts out with a bang. My insurance covers it....so we'll see.

Anyway..what I am sooo curious about is YOUR day to day menu.

On a typical day what does your menu consist of after surgery?

Thanks

At what point in the post-op life are you looking? I'm 11 months out, and it is hugely different than it was say 3 weeks post-op.

Here is my typical day:

Breakfast:

7 oz container of Fage 2% yogurt & 1/2 cup kashi honey almond flax cereal with 1 pkg splenda.

Lunch: 1 cup of chili with 1 oz of cheddar, and a dollop of FF sour cream.

snack: 1 cheddar stick

Dinner: 4 oz of chicken (with gravy if needed) tbsp or two of green beans, a tbsp or so worth of brown or wild rice or mashed potato

snack, if still hungry: a few almonds or few walnuts or a wedge of cheddar cheese.

Beverage throughout the day: decaf coffee with SF creamer (hot in the AM, iced the rest of the day and/or water w/ lemon slices)

Well, I am well over a year out now, so I eat very normally. I drink coffee again (I quit for approx 6 months around my surgery) and have some almost every morning with milk and Splenda on my drive to work. I often have a piece of fruit or cheese in the morning, too. I don't usually eat much breakfast as my pouch doesn't like food until around 10am. On days off of work, I'll usually wait to eat until brunchtime, just having a cup of tea after waking. For example, the other day I woke up late (holiday!) and was having a "hungry day" so I had one and a half eggs (I threw the rest of the second one away), half an english muffin, a sausage link, and a few bites of hashbrowns. For lunch my usual is to eat about 3/4 of a Lean Cuisine meal, usually chicken of some kind. Today was Lemongrass Chicken, one of my favorites! Sometimes I have half a turkey or tuna sandwich (tearing off some bread, but I do eat the rest!).

In the last few months, I've needed some sort of snack in the afternoons to avoid light-headedness (I don't get home until 8pm usually, so dinner is a long time from lunch) so I've been having somethign like a piece of fruit, a cheese stick, part of a Kashi bar, or even sometimes a handful of the dreaded crackers (Cheez-its almost always!).

In the evenings my dinner varies quite a bit since I hate eating the same thing every day. Often I will heat up some Trader Joe's curry sauce with frozen veggies and a small handful of nuts and pour it over shrimp. Sometimes I dip chicken breast strips in sweet & sour sauce. Sometimes I eat soup or salad, both of which are some of my favorite things in the world. To finish my day, I will have a protein drink or a glass of milk, depending on how I feel I've done for the day protein-wise and calorie-wise.

I will also freely admit to the occasional glass of wine in the evenings or on weekends. But never when I have to drive somewhere, of course!

My pouch is pretty tolerant, as long as I follow most of the rules, don't have too much bread or pasta, and eat slowly enough. My biggest challenge has been keeping hydrated. I keep water bottles in my car, a pitcher on my desk, and bottles in every room of my house, but I still don't always get enough water. Something for me to keep working on!

I'm a little over 2-weeks post-op...

breakfast: 6 ounces of fage yogurt (I generally just pick at it over the course of 30-60 minutes)
snack: 1/4 cup non-fat cottage cheese
lunch: 1/2 cup pureed soup
snack: 1/4 cup non-fat cottage cheese
dinner: the other half cup of soup left over from lunch

if I find myself hungry at night or just needing something sweet, I keep sugar free fruit pops in the freezer.

of course, that will be dramatically changing as I progress onto normal foods... can't wait till I can actually start getting substantial amounts of protein once I can start eating fish / ground meat.

I noticed this with someone else... the small container of fage is 7 oz not 6 oz. Which means doing a yogurt to yogurt container nutritional comparison means doing a bit of math, LOL. (most are 6 oz)

I am almost 4 months out:

breakfast is a protein drink--39 gr of protein

snack--1/2 atkins bar, 2 oz. deli ham or 2 oz. cheese

lunch--dinner leftovers or soup--usually chicken

snack--nuts, 1/2 atkins bar, deli ham, cheese or left over chicken

dinner--most of time I eat chicken or turkey, once in awhile I eat pork or beef but they don't thrill me -- I eat the meat with veggies like asparagus, broccoli or cauliflower and sometimes 1/2 baked potato

In between meals I drink water and maybe one cup of coffee a day--once in awhile 2 cups

Decaf coffee and tea all day (lately more tea than coffee)

Breakfast: Fage or 2 scrambled eggs or oatmeal
Lunch: Chili or plain boiled shrimp
Dinner: All kinds of things, try to avoid the carbs. In a restaurant I eat about 1/3 of the meal.
Snacks: Cheese or Southbeach bar or popcorn or SF pudding

almost 4 years pop op and I eat almost anything just in very small portions (still)and in moderation. My pouch still decides what works one day and not the next.

I am alomost 8 months post op and everyday looks different. I always start my day with a protein drink from Starbucks. It has about 21 grams of protein and is 270 calories. I like the taste and it satisfies me usually until lunch when I have some type of soup. I am almost always on the go so it varies from day to day. The Campbells soups on the go worked well during the first few months. Now any soup usually goes down well. If I need a snack, I eat some sort of nuts. For dinner, I try and eat a small portion of what I fix for my family. Some type of meat, starch and vegetable. Some times if I get too hungry, I eat too fast and then I get sick. I am working on eating slowly so I can digest what I eat. I usually have no problems when we dine out or with friends because the meal takes longer. Goodluck! You will not regret your decision if you decide to have surgery. It is a difficult road but one well worth the trouble.
