Default WLS an easy way out!!!!

You know this morning I was listening to my radio station,as I do everyday. The conversation started on Gastric Bypass Surgery.A women called in and said "you know those people who get that surgery are taking the easy way out" .Oh man that frusterates me.I had friends tell me that when I was researching the surgery 3yrs ago.Now 9mo(tommorow) post-op and healthier & happier than they are hehe...
This has been the most difficult, scary, hard thing I have done in my life so far.
Dont you hate to hear that

Easy way ha ha ha,

That is what my one of my best friends said to me, her husband said the same thing. I am not sure which way is easy. I haven't found that part yet. By the way me friends doctor told her she could not have the surgery. I think that why she was so upset at me for having it.

Those people that say it is the easy way out really dont' understand very much about the surgery at all. Ignorance is bliss as they say

Default Nope! Not even close

Beyond the pre op anxiety, fears of surgery and pain/stress post op...if you just look at the diet part, anyone who has been through surgery or has watched someone diet after surgery could see that it is in no way the easy way out . I am only 1 month post op but have had to give up most of the staples that I used to live on (diet pepsi, coffee, etc that a dieter could still have while dieting.), have been on a liquid diet for 4 weeks and now on baby food consistency for this and next week. My head still tells me that I want the other stuff and I have to fight the urge just like any other dieter would. Add to that the fact that I fear dumping when I try some new food (something that a dieter never has to consider). Okay, enough ranting...you know the drill. Can you tell that I've heard the "WLS is the easy way out" statement a few times?

I could not be happier about making this decision but surgery brings with it it's own challenges and difficulties. I think many of us try not to impose the difficulties of our decision on others (don't want to hear any "I told ya so") and they don't recognize how much effort it really requires.

You guys are a great group of people and deserve 100% of the recognition for your accomplishments. The surgery is the tool...the rest comes from a lot of effort on our part.

Ignorant people say stupid things. I was told to just pretend I had wls and eat only 3 oz of food a day. (1 oz per meal)

Default Boy will I get slammed for this but...

it HAS been the easy way out for me. I honestly HATED dieting. I dieted from the time I was in 5th grade on (and by diet I mean eating healthy and watching intake) and after my son was born I gave up for a while. Before I knew it I was overwhelmed with health problems and in over my head with my weight. I chose to go with WLS and it was the best thing I've ever done. It has made eating right and controling my intake a no brainer walk in the park. It's as if someone snapped their fingers and took off 80 lbs, and the last 29 were the easiest to shed compared to EVERY other option I ever tried. For me it HAS been the easy way out and I'm not ashamed for that. I thank God for it every day.

1.) Major Surgery is NEVER the "Easy way" out of anything.

2.) Surgery is a tool, you still must do the diet and exercise religiously.

3.) If surgery WAS the "easy way" who the heck cares? If you have a choice between doing something the easy way or the hard way...you would be an idiot to chose the hard way for some faux sense of moral gratification.

4.) Purple Monkey Dishwasher

5.) Hi mom!

No easy way out about it! It was a rough time for me in the beginning and a lot of people were worried for me (you all know who you are), but I would do it tomorrow again if I had to and it takes work every day to use the tool. Easy way out......I just want to tell them to you know what. Until someone has walked in your shoes, they have no room to say anything. Most of the time I find they are just JEALOUS!!

I love this forum....we can vent, vent, vent!!

I'd say it's easier than dying from the complications I was having from the obesity!
