Talking Protein shake great find!~ i am saved finally!!! Check this out!

Ok guys, well here I sit three weeks post op. I must be honest and say that unlike many of you, I hate the protein shakes. I tried all the brands and all the flavors. I have been struggling getting the protein in because of this.

That was until last week. My mom is a lowcarb nut and knows all the best low carb diet foods. She introduced me to to a great iced mocha mix. It is low carb, low sugar, and low calories/fat. I am EXSTATIC because this has now been my life saver!

I purchased the UNFLAVORED unjury brand protein (unjury.com) and mix it with the BIG TRAIN BLENDED MOCHA DRINK MIX, 1 cup of 1% milk for an extra 8 gr. of protein, and 8 0z. of ice. TURNS OUT YUMMY!!! NO nasty chalky after taste, no nasty protein taste, and it helps my coffee craving. It is simiply the best thing on this earth.

So here is the site that we get all the low carb goodies from. Shipping can be a little slow. But the do a BIG TRAIN (the brand) search. (low-carb.com)

I just thought that this may help some of us who are struggling like me to get a good quality protein in and yummy at the least!

Let me know what you think.
Nutrition facts: Serving size - 1 packet, calories 90, calories from fat 45, total fat 5g, saturated fat 0.5 g, trans fat 0g, cholesterol 0g, sodium 190mg, potassium 34mg, total carbohydrates 14g, dietary fiber 1g, sugars 2g, sugar alcohol 11g, protein 6g.

Thanks!
Is that right?....14grms of carbs in one serving? My doc told me to get try not to take in more than 2grms of carbs in each serving.
Have you tried any other flavors of this brand? I'm not much for coffee.

Thanks for sharing your fav. flav!!

imho:

too much fat per serving

too many carbs per serving

and far too many sugar alcohols....for me anyway.

I have yet to have surgery however I was told as a guide rule that no more than 1/3 of the total calories should come from fat and this product has 1/2!
Does that rule of thumb seem right to others or is my doc. being overly cautious?

And don't forget, that extra "1 cup of 1% milk for an extra 8 gr. of protein", also adds an additional 12-13g of carbs and 12-13g of sugar.

The Unjury, cup of 1% milk and Big Train Mocha Mix makes your protein drink add up to:

270 calories
7.5g fat
27g carbs
15g sugar
34g protein

Just a little something to think about.

Yeah, that's insane when you break it down.
It may be good....but its obviously not as good for you.

Finding a protein drink that I even remotely like has been hard....ugh!

Check out vitalady.com They have the best selection of samples that I know of. Everything from the milk shape type drinks to the fruity stuff.

That seems like way too many carbs and not enough protein for one serving. I use Bodybuilding.com - Optimum 100% Whey Protein - With Faster-Acting HYDROWHEY! On sale now! It has ALOT more protein and less carbs and it great tasting to me. I love the vanilla ice cream flavored, 1 scoop with 8 oz milk and 1 container of fruity yogurt to make a smoothie. I also drink the milk chocolate flavored just mixed in milk and tasted like choco milk to me. I am on a vanilla kick right now. Warning: The strawberry is NOT good, so don't get it. The prices on this site are a little steep and you can find it alot cheaper. Just search 100% Whey Protein and you can find it alot cheaper on other sites. But this was just one I could pull up fast to show what I use. I get it from my mom's nutrition store that she owns, so I don't really have to worry about price. But I have seen it alot cheaper.

Trina,

If you add the carbs up in your smoothie, there's isn't a huge difference:

Optimum 100% Whey Protein = 3g
8oz of skimmed milk = 12-13g
pot of Yogurt - I went for Blue Bunny cause it's the lowest carb I know (most of the other low fat yogurts are way higher) = 5g

That's around 21g - only 6g less than than Shelly's (assuming your yogurt is very low carb).

Carbs aren't bad - I'm really shoving them down right now cause I need to put weight on. But if anyone is trying to cut back, we need to take account of everthing we drink and eat.

I've been living on smoothies because of my stricture. I'm sure some would say my smoothies had too many carbs but, not much other food was going in. I have had to pack in as much nutrition as possible in one serving. I make my smoothies with frozen strawberries and raspberries, crushed ice, plain yogurt, 1/2 a banana, packet of Splenda, a little no sugar juice, and 30 grams of protein in unflavored whey powder. I sometime blend up my multi-vitamin in it, too. (I take two of those each day)

I think you have to weigh your total carb/protein intake for the day, not just one item.
