Food Fear
Ok, the last time I was in the hospital the doctor said I have what is called food fear. I am afraid of getting sick everytime I turn around!!! and there is certain foods that when I think of them I become sick, just by the thought.
I am sick of pureed and cause of my issues that is all I am allowed to have. What do you suggest? I have to be honest though, today I induldged!!! my family wanted cooked steaks on the grill, I am the only cook in the house... so I cooked the steaks out and I just couldn't take it any longer, I tore off a piece of meat and chewed chewed chewed and it was YUMMY and I am not a bit sorry (YET) ..... I am just struggling for something with substance to it that won't turn my tummy when I think of it or go to prepair it.... got any suggestions????

Does your doctor say it is ok to have solids? I am not sure because you had the duodenal switch and I don't know when you can eat solids. I think if you chew it really good, it would be ok, but to be safe I would check. It must have tasted good. I know I had to live on steak at month 3 and technically we aren't recommended to by Dr. Callery, but he gave me the ok as long as I chewed well and didn't throw up or anything. The steak saved me from my anemia.
Suzeq~ you be careful...we want you well.
If the steak is soft, maybe that is ok, too???

Well, the real question is how did you feel after you ate the steak?
If you felt okay with eating the steak and it's okay with your doctor, then go for it.

I thought with the DS, you don't have any dumping problems. Perhaps I'm a ditz, but why are you still on pureed?

Hey Suez... I just realized that you had DS, I think you are the only one active on this board that has had that procedure (to the best of my knowledge anyway, if Im wrong Im sure I will hear about it) You may have difficulties gtting advice on your diet in the early stages..... just in case you need more answers about it specifically, have you checked out obesityhelp... just suggestion for more answers.... I love having you around here!!! Hey, you will be our resident DS superstar, not it all on our forum.... you are crowned! Im sure you will hold your reign with grace and dignity!
Love you dearly, but not queerly!

I need to clear the air.....
Ok sorry cause I had confused EVERYONE lol, here is the story.... I was fighting the insurance company for the DS and they said NO.... so after a year I caved in and went for the RNY, well while I was in surgery my surgeon calles my husband while he is in the waiting room and asks him.... was she here for the RNY or the DS my husband told them RNY cause of insurance. well aftr that when I was hospitalized all three times my chart and file said I had the DS and I had no clue as to what I had..... Well when I had to have my last swallowing (ICKY STUFF) Dr. G said I had the RNY and the charting was wrong and he documented that I had the RNY reguarless of what the chart said..... I was very confused for a while.....
As far as the steak, no it didn't hurt me at all.... but I paid dearly today at lunch when I tried to eat simple soup...... I know Bad sue bad !!!!

Sorry Suzeq...I saw that you put duodenal switch under your signature, so I thought that is what you had...I see you changed it today. Glad the steak worked out ok for ya.

You Poor Baby! Have you tried tuna? It was one of the few things I could stand early out. I would run it through the food processor for just a few seconds and put a dab of miracle whip in it. Maybe you could do the same with the steak and add a little broth in it. I also eat a lot of tofu. There is a good roasted garlic flavor on the market (Wal-Mart has it). it is soft and is a great source of protein. I eat lots of cottage cheese too, but you are probably tired of that. try a little peanut butter, just put it on a spoon and suck on it for a while, that is also a good source of protein. Try something new or a little different everyday. We gotta get you well!!
Big Hugs,
Amber
