The one thing I do make sure is that I get my protein, water, and vitamins in!
My doctor is dead set against snacks...it's strictly 3 meals a day...so I'm pretty much now 'trained' to this.
I'm not afraid of food.... I'm just not hungry.... Again, I know in a few months (when I'm ravenous) I'll look back at this and wonder why I was so concerned...
Relating to getting my protein in, howeve....I spent a 'fun' (ha-ha!) afternoon at the urgent care yesterday because the pain caused by my constipation got so bad I couldn't stand it.
I lucked out and got a doctor that happens to be BIG into nutrition/fitness, etc....and he told me that he was surprised no one at my surgeons office or my regular doctor never told me that high protein diets, particularly using protein powders, are NOTORIOUS for causing severe constipation if you don't get in at least 20 to 30 grams of fiber a day.
He said taking benefiber three times a day wouldn't even begin to help considering how much protein, and really nothing else I was getting in a day.
He suggested I keep up with the benefiber, the miralax and the ducolax but also try to eat a half cup of something like FiberOne during the course of the day. I explained about my dislike of milk and the fact I am still on mushy food til after the first of the year and he suggested just adding enough water until the cereal is mushy and then eat it. He also said I might want to consider adding a tablespoon of 'good fat' like olive oil to my diet, maybe once every other day.... He said it might actually help with my weight loss (I told him my frustration with my low/slow weight loss).
When I got home I googled protein powders and high protein/low fat diets and found that constipation does seem to be a common complaint.
I'm going to give it a shot (especially seeing if I can't get in the FiberOne during the course of my three meals) and see if it helps.

Wow, thanks for sharing this. I haven't had much problem with constipation but, it could develop since I'm starting to exist on protein shakes. (possible sticture)
Are you taking Ducolax, etc in pill form? If so, do you swallow them okay? Swallowing even a quartered up pill for me is distressing right now so I'm wondering how you get it in.

don't be scared to eat!!! food wont be your enemy as long as you eat right! its all trail and error...you'll learn. and trust me i still have days that i don't wanna eat but i do because i have to. you're reprogramming your brain.
if you are having a hard time with solids or anything like that go back to liquids for a bit. SF applesauce is usually good...add some protien in there if you want. or do SF jello with protien. there isn't anything wrong with doing the shakes or anything...its still protien. alot of people have to do the shakes cause its hard to get in all the protien from just food alone (at least it is for me it is and some others that i know).

Fiber One is my saving grace. Do you like yogurt or applesauce? Crush it up and throw it in there.

I use Fiber Choice - a SF tablet at Wal-Mart. I take two each time, three times a day (whether I can poop or not) - EVERY day when I take my other supplements.
Then, WITHOUT MILK, I sometimes have a 1/2 cup of Kashi Go Lean, Honey Almond Flax cereal - just in a coffee cup - for a snack at bedtime. I chew and chew so it's almost mush. It is yummy and full of protein and fiber!
Miralax is just for emergencies, as I no longer have a constipation problem.

Normal
I think we all went through and I used the time hopefully to associate to food differently -- I think it is a learning time - to reevaluate how/why we eat - I hated food, but I ate to survive -- not because I liked to eat. Eventually things turn around and food will become enjoyable again -- I suggest to take this time to really evaluate and learn/use new ways of coping with stress and the way you relate to food. I am 6 mo out and I still have days were food sucks. Just to let you know I recall sometimes -- 3 or 4 being disgusted and thinking "what did I do" I am never going to like the taste of anything again. But it will and does pass.
God Bless and Best Wishes to you on your journey!

Greetings Linda!
Actually, I'm taking Colace, not ducolax. And, yes, I can actually swallow these.
I was kinda of leary at first...so I took one...waited awhile, and when I realized I wasn't going to have any problems, I took the second.
I take 2 colace (actually Walmart generic brand) every night...and will continue to do to so until my diet is less dependent upon protein shakes and I get more nutrition through my meals...probably somewhere around 4 month.
I'm still cutting up all of my other pills in half or even 4th's...just no way to split a colace (and don't try it...trust me, it is way tooo bitter and will burn your mouth if you try to open it up..Yup, I tried it!)

Greetings Collen,
I found I actually like the FiberOne with just water...I mix in just enough (a couple of tablespoons) to make it 'fall apart'. I may try adding it with applesauce instead...I didn't think of that. THANKS!
