Ok, sweetie. Sounds like you need a crash course on vitamins.
First of all don't feel like a dummy! It sounds like your surgeon hasn't really given you much direction. He basically gave you the tool without instructions. No wonder you don't know what to do. So don't beat yourself up. Start doing A LOT of research, ask A LOT of questions. It's basically time to get back into school for weight loss surgery!
Basic rules for vitamins. The centrum isn't the best choice but there are worse ones. At least it isn't Flinestone chewables.

This is what your day needs to look like and then will need to be adjusted depending on your labs. The calcium is the right kind but not enough.
am:
1 Centrum Vitamin
2 Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D (500mg)
1000mcg sublingual B-12 (you can find this in any drug store. You put it under your tongue and let it dissolve)
At least 2 hours later:
30mg Iron (Ferrous Fumerate, Ferrous Gluconate or Carbonyl iron)
500mg Vitamin C
-you can't take iron with the calcium. They will counter-act each other. You also can't take it with any dairy products. The only iron I've been able to find is the Gluconate over-the-counter.
supper:
1 Centrum Vitamin
2 Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D (500mg)
Bedtime:
2 Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D (500mg)
These are the MINIMUM that you should be taking EVERY DAY FOREVER! Just because your labs may be "good" doesn't mean you don't need your vitamins. If you are showing deficiencies things will have to be changed.
Personally I would get your pcp involved. Come with a handful of information to help him/her know what you need in regards to follow-up. I would also get myself to a nutritionist. One that knows weight loss surgery if possible.
In regards to nutrition? You need to be getting in:
60grams protein MINIMUM. Probably should be more like 70-90 grams
Calories: 1000-1200 from healthy food. Not sugars or simple carbs.
Fat grams: Less than 30 in 24 hours.
64 oz fluids (no carbonated sodas, limited caffeine) 32 oz should be coming from water.
These are my surgeon's recommendations.
Corrine is the vitamin guru around here. So take her advice. She knows what she is talking about. Me? I'm an RN with some bariatric background (hopefully a lot more!

) so I do know a bit about what I'm talking about. We'll get you going the right way. Most important thing is that you are willing to make the changes. It isn't too late but you are heading for trouble if you don't make changes.
