Question Psych evaluation

Hi Everyone ,

I have my surgeon consult Friday, I think I mentioned this already ) : )

Today I got a call from the shrinks office.
They need a referral from my insurance for a psych evaluation , and they will also be giving me a 3 hour test, and then a follow up. I guess to tell me if I'm nuts or not . LOL

I think it would have been nice of the doctors office to tell me I needed this from the insurance earlier.
It put me in a big rush. Oh Well......

It seems the psych evaluation will be on the same day as I see the surgeon. do you think? gulp

I have a couple of questions.
What is the three hour test about? What should I expect? I'm wondering if I'm getting this because I take med's for anxiety and depression.

Thanks for your help , I'm getting nervous : (

Greetings SassyGrl,
Since they told you three hours for the test, I'm thinking it's a version of the MMPI... Best thing to do when taking this test is not to panic, not to read too much into any of the questions and just answer each question and move on to the next. If you pay attention, there will be variations of the same question-these are just 'test' questions to make sure you are consistent in your answers.

Get a good nights sleep the night before and don't drink a lot of water before the test (make sure you go to the bathroom before)...it's hard to take a test like this when you have a full bladder.... If cafeine makes you 'antsy', I'd lay off that as well.

Just about EVERY insurance company seems to require some version of the test and psych evaluation...so don't take it personally or get paranoid about it... Honestly, most overweight people ARE depressed (they may not admit it)... so don't pretend you are the original little Miss Sunshine or they will be suspicious. Be honest...they've heard it all before.

I know it's sounds like it's easy for me (or others) to tell you to relax...but as the original poster girl for depression and the Xanax queen of the upper midwest... just calm down, you'll be okay.....

Hi Michele

I was very truthful on my papers that I have Clinical depresson.
My thought was maybe thier caught there eye , but I do want the surgeon to be through, so I can do it.
Thank you so much !

Hi - I had my psych exam last Thurs. I don't remember the name of my test but it sounds like the same one. 565 true false questions. You definately do not want a full bladder. I only talked to the psych for about 20 min. after that. good luck

Default Wowwwww

I'm glad I didn't have to take that test!!! I'm baddd at tests!!! I only had to meet with my Psych dr. and she asked me like maybe 10 questions!!! Nothing major...same stuff they tell you at the meetings for GB!!! The only one I didn't know how to answer was...what weight do you want to be at after surgery...wellllllll I have been fat (ok...obese) my WHOLE life how the hell am I supposed to know that answer!!! I told her Healthy...and she said that was the perfect answer!!! Other than that she sent it off to have her office type it up, I paid my $25. to pick it up and I took it to my dr. appt!!! Done deal!!!
