Sleep, sleep, sleep
How much sleep is normal the first couple of months after surgery? Do you sleep more/ less since surgery?
I sleep almost 12 hours a day. I would sleep more if I could. Before surgery I would get around 7 hours. Lately I can't make it through the day without a nap and I have been sleeping in more and more. I'm exhausted.

So far I am sleeping the same amount as before. I do get very physically tired much earlier, but actual sleeping is 11 hours at night. I've only napped once, and that was an accident.

i've also been feeling tired and run down. I think part of that is that i go for my walks right at dusk (8:30-8:45) every night, walk a mile then i'm too hyped from the adrenaline to sleep well.
I also found that my b12 was outta whack and my doctor suggested increasing to a larger, daily dosage. I think that helps give more energy, but time will tell since i just started on that.
Tired in MO this morning ...

The first couple of weeks I slept more than usual and sometimes took a nap, but I've been sleeping 6-8 hours a night for awhile now.

Remember, your body is recovering from major surgery. I slept round the clock for a couple of weeks. Just go with it - listen to what your body is telling you it needs.
Just also be sure you're walking and getting what exercise you can while you're awake.
It will get better!

As long as you are taking your vitamins..and hopefully one is B-12..drink your water, get your protein...then just relax and let your body heal.

vitamins and exercise
I am taking my vitamins and exercising. I'm tired of being tired. Yesterday I went to bed at 8pm. I slept until around 2am. The dog woke me up wanting to go outside. I let her out and stayed awake for an hour or so and then went back to sleep again until 11 am today. It's 3 ppm and I feel like I could go to sleep right now.

I did that at after surgery also. It seemed my body needed the extra rest to heal and to get used to the lower calories and protein intake. I STILL take a nap in the afternoon but I'm trying to force myself out of that habit. Not easy, but I'm trying.

I'm a firm believer in letting your body decide when it's time to go to bed, and when it's time to get up.
I'm a night person ... I hate mornings and have since I was a little kid ((maybe even a baby ... just can't remember that far back!)). I go to bed at midnight and get up at 10 am ... every day.
After surgery it was the same for me, but add in a nap or two as well. I don't nap anymore, but sweetie, if you're tired, your body is telling you it needs it.
Now, GET TO BED!!! ((Dr. JumboJulie's strict orders))

I was feeling the same way...literally exhausted. I called my RN at Magee, and arranged to have blood testing done. (They don't normally do it until the 6 month post-op visit). Turns out my iron was extremely low, and my B-12 and potassium were low as well. All 3 can contribute to being tired, especially the iron. I'm now doubling/tripling up on those supplements until I can get my levels normal again.
