I had Laproscopic RNY and was out 6 weeks. Tried going back at 5 weeks, was too tired. Turned out I didn't need my HBP pills anymore. Oh well, got another week's R&R.

I had Laproscopic RNY and was away from work for 4 weeks. I went back to a desk job but I will still very tired and making many mental & physical adjustments. I had to lay on the floor of my office more than once because of dumping on my sub-lingual B12!

I'm retired, but I'll chime in.

I'm 5 weeks out from lap RNY, and I still have days when I feel like I've been run over by a truck. One moment I feel like I could conquer the world, and the very next (for no reason whatsoever), I'm dead on my feet. I know if I went back right now, I would not be the best or most reliable employee.

This is major surgery, and your body needs time to heal!

I took 6 weeks off...I could have went back sooner (2 weeks) but between our new life-style change (drinking, eating, etc.) and being tired...was really glad I waited 6 weeks!

But a friend of mine went back after 3 weeks...but had a hard time adjusting to the new requirements and tiredness.

Default Went back too soon

Hi,

I had surgery April 30, 2008 and went back to work on May 8th. Whoo BIG MISTAKE. I always think I can conquer the world. I felt like crap even though I have a desk job and only work one or two days a week. I really didn't feel very good till about 4 weeks from surgery. Really I am still getting back my strength. Every person is different so you must really talk it over with your surgeon. Mine gave me the what for when I told her what I did. So I guess I am saying give yourself time and a break to heal properly.

Good Luck!

I was out 3 weeks. That was excellent for me. I would have been pretty tired after only 2 weeks.

I had surgery 5/12 and went back to work 5/28 - another desk job. Although I felt great, I got sooooo tired around 3:00 in the afternoon it was all I could do to stay awake. It got much better last week and I have no problems now - so if I could have, I would have stayed out an extra week - 3 total.... LOL, but I'm off tomorrow and friday and all of next week on vacation so I guess it evens out for me

Maybe I'm a weirdo here. I was discharged 24h post op (constant contact for 72h) & back to work in 6 days. It was LapRNY, btw. They advise here in Denmark 2 weeks off, 4 weeks light duty, but I couldn't hack that. I was back FT (I am a service person) 6 days post op. Up to your own bod what it needs, tho...
