What I got from my doc was to follow the paperwork given to me and explained to me by my dietitian. She and I went over pages and pages to do's, don'ts and whatnot's, and I always had her to call.
I kNOW I have to WRITE everything down because my memory is like a sieve and I am constantly referring to the paperwork, even now.
As to clear liquids for 2-weeks, that's absurd. You still need calories, you still need vitamin intake, and you need protein by far. No one goes into surgery in starvation mode! Definitely CLARIFY with your doc's office. Screw what the receptionist says, or any attitude you may perceive or receive... you need this info to be correct for your health and for a perfect surgical outcome and recovery.
Just ask, "I'm just calling to verify exactly what I am allowed to and not allowed during my pre-op fast." You can even blame it on your husband, "my husband is being stubborn and wants me to be absolutely sure... can you help me out a sec?" Perhaps the offce can even email you exactly what they want.
Good luck! The countdown is on!
