I was out on work comp so I had 8 weeks to rest. But actually less than that. My daughter and husband both got sick 10 days after my surgery with that damn flu. So here I was barely moving nursing 2 children back to health and I needed to be pampered.
I started to feel good within 3 weeks or so. It gets easier to laugh by then and moving around is easier. Everyone is different and their recovery time will vary. Just rest, walk, sip, rest, walk and sip.

I was referred by my primary doc on 10-14-04, I had surgery on 2-22-05. There are lots of tests involved etc. It only took two weeks for ins approval. I was off work for 6 weeks but I needed 8. I work in a factory (maytag) and do lots of physical labor and I had a rough couple of weeks. This is week three back and I feel much better. Hope that helps you out!!

Question Work

I went back to work 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. Looking back now I should have stayed out longer, but hey everything worked out! I started feeking better about 2 weeks after surgery, but still got pretty tired. By the end of the day I was tired, and ready for bed.

Thank you all for responding. I have to plan this carefully. save up my vacation and sick time to take enough time off work. I work at a desk so it isn't physically challenging at all. I recently had emergency back surgery and was off for 6 weeks and to took up all my sick and vacation. I signed up for 30 day wait on diability (oops)... anyway thank you!

I went back to work after a week and a half and it was too soon for me. I wish I would've taken the 6 weeks.

I'm back at work after 2 weeks off and was more than ready to go back...laying around the house made me feel "sick".

I think it really depends on whether you have Lap or open. Open take much more time to recover from than Lap. I dont' work I am on disability but I think maybe 3 weeks for me. But it really depends of the person and about of pain you can handle and how tired you are from surgery. After all they are completly rearanging your insides. It take a while to get over and feel normal.

I took 6 1/2 weeks off from work. I could have probably went back sooner, but decided to wait until I felt close to 100%. I felt really good after a week or two, still a little sore, but every day got better. If you can take the time off, take it. Even if you feel great, your body have a major plumbing overhaul and your guts do need time to heal.
