Default I have anxiety...own hospital room

Not about the surgery, pain, or eating. Want to know what I'm anxious about? Being in the hospital room with someone and not being able to fall asleep! I am so crazy when it comes to sleep. It has to be dark, quiet, and I have to have a fan on. Now, I know some will say that I'll be so tired it won't matter, but it does to me. Trust me, I had my tonsils out when I was 16 and was SOOOOOOO tired, but the girl in my room had the TV on and I couldn't fall asleep.

Does anyone know the steps to go through to get my own hospital room?

I am the same way and was lucky to be in ICU the first few days because I was on CPAP. They usually do a 24 hr watch in ICU with my dr if you are on CPAP, but no rooms were available so I was there 48 hrs...then I got put in a room with a crazy woman and even with all the pain meds I couldnt sleep...I asked for a private room but they didn't have any. So perhaps you should look into it beforehand. I'm sorry...it's not fun but it's worth a few days of no sleep and sharing a room for the results i've had...I'd do it all over and wish you luck!

Let your doctor know that this is an issue for you and they may be ale to write you a script for something to help you sleep.

Goal! I did it!
111 pounds gone since my RNY
125 total pounds gone forever!
Maintaining within a few pounds up and down. 130 is my "I must not go over it" weight, and it doesn't seem to be a problem.
BMI 22.3

Addendum...I'm havin' a problem. I'm 134 today and struggling. But that signature line will be true again soon.

I'm getting there. 131 this morning.

I am not a tame lion......

I used ear plugs, and a damp washcloth over my eyes at all times.

I'm like you.. no tv... quiet & dark is my preference. I wish they gave you an option to be in a room with or without a TV..

Personally, I think it is insane to have TV's in a room where there are more than one person in the room...horrid, horrid concept.

Unless it's like that stuff they put in your IV before you go in for surgery to knock you out, nothing will help!

My cousin snores, and when we go on vacation if he has a lot to drink before bed forget it! I've tried Tylenol PM, Xanax, and Clonopin (not together). All I focus on is the noise and I get a headache. I can be dead on my feet, but any noise keeps me up. I wish I weren't like this!

I just requsted a private room when the nurse from the hospital called me. I know with my hospital a nurse from pre-procedure planning always calls a few days before surgery. If you don't have a nurse who calls do you do pre-registration with the hospital? Just request a private room then.

I'm the same as you. I can't sleep if someone else is in the room. I didn't sleep anyway because the nurses and lab tech kept me up all night but I still liked my privacy even if I didn't sleep.

I was only in hospital for two nights and neither were good for sleeping.

I didn't get out of surgery until just gone 6.00 p.m. so by the time I got to my room, it was pretty late.

So - what with the med machine beeping what seemed like every half an hour because something had run out and then the nurses coming in to do the BP, temp etc. etc., I got little sleep the first night.

2nd night wasn't much better cause I didn't have my catheter out until early evening and I desperately wanted to go to the toilet but I couldn't. The nurses encouraged me to keep walking and keep sipping water. At 2.00 p.m. I still hadn't wee'd so they came and took a blood sample and threatened me that if I didn't go within the next hour, I'd have to be catheterized. That worked!

I've never been so glad to see my own bed as I was at lunchtime that day. I slept like a baby for 6 hours.

Lemme tell ya......roommate or none...sleep is one thing you dont get much of in the hospital....if for no other reason, they will be coming in every hour on the hour checking in on you, taking samples, givng you meds etc...dont worry about it.
