Ah, I understand now. Scar tissue build up. Common as all get out!

Do you happen to know if getting hiccups all the time might indicate a stricture in the opening? I'm figuring it's just food passing thru and pressing on my diaphragm. It's gotten worse and it's aggravating to have hiccups everyday. Gag. I sound like a drunk.

I am two months out and have had to go and and get my "stoma stretched" twice. My symptoms consisted of not being able to eat anything that was close to a solid. I get to the point when soup with little chunks feel like they are stuck and then I have to throw up. The weird thing is that I get a stuck feeling at the base of my throat. It kind of feels like when you drink something fast and it "goes down wrong".

My doc told me after the first time that the chances are once you have it done once, you will have to have it done again. After the third month your body will stop trying to heal it and close it up.

All I can say is I sure hope I am all done with it because after I get stretched I have to go back to liquids for 5 days. UGH!

Good Luck

Michelle

Thumbs down I Think I Have One.....

I am thinking that I have a stricture right now!! I am having no problems with liquids, but anythind solid is causing GREAT PAIN and I end up throwing up. This has be a progressing thing over the last week. I am 3 weeks post op today! Does that sound like a 'stricture' to all your experts???? I dont want to call the surgens office until monday- is that OK to wait that long- I am sure I can drink my food for a couple of days.
Thanks,
Caran

Caran your symptoms sound a lot like what I had. Does it hurt at the bottom of your throat? Like under your adams apple? I waited for days before I had mine stretched. In fact I was on vacation and it started to tighten the day I left. I was gone for 5 days and came back and had it stretched two days later. I have a juicer and would juice tons of vegetables. I also drank a lot of my protein shakes. I actually never felt like I was starving.

When I had mine stretched it was so easy. Nothing to be worried about.
