Decided in late October I was going to do it after attending the informational seminar. Originally scheduled my surgery for late December, but due to an injury I was not able to keep my pre-op physical & nutritional appointment so my surgery was moved to Jan 29. So three months & 2 days.

I saw the surgeon in June 07 - initially just for an umbilical hernia repair. He suggested the gastric bypass and had I both done at the same time 3 months later.

August was my consult Dec was surgery.

I had been seeing my primary for the previous 5 years to control my weight issues. During that time I took pills, hired a trainer, joined Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, saw3 a nutitionist, wore a pedometer (to prove I was not inactive)
so when I went to my primary with GBS info in hand, she smiled and said, "I was just waiting for you to ask", the refferal to DR. Callery's took less than a week, then the appointment for the consult another week or 2 then the approval less than 10 days. Surgery....December 27, 2004.......Freedom rings!!!!

Went through Kaiser, your hard pressed to pull it off unless than 10 months to a year, 6 months of classes and a month or so prior to get approved for the classes, and if you miss one you make it up later, and then approx 6-8 weeks for surgery...

MONEY IN THE BANK TO DATE......$360
This is the running amount of money saved by not having to spend so much eating out. Number based on spending $20 a day on food. And that very conservative!!!

I decided in Sept. 2004 and had my pcp seek approval to see a bariatric surgeon. I was denied by my insurance company. (Not on enough meds for co-morbidities? ) I appealed in Jan 2005 (after discovering I had sleep apnea. Now had 2 co-morbidities) and was approved to continue on with the process with a bariatric surgeon. I had my orientation in May 2005 and had all of my preop appointments done by the end of June 2005 and was approved for the surgery by July 2005. My surgeon refused to schedule the surgery because of preop labs that had to improve and further testing I needed done. (pap smear, mammogram and breast biopsy after I found a lump. ) I was given a surgery date in Nov 2005 (after getting diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol under better control and testing all came back without problems) and finally had surgery Jan 2006. So over a year from decision point but 7 months from approval for surgery.
