Default Skin Issues

Has anyone noticed that with losing weight and gaining excess skin that it becomes so much more dry and even sometime flakey? Wherever I have a lot of excess skin it seems to be so so dry, even with using moisturizers. Hell, even on areas that are not as bad my skin seems a little dry and flaking slightly.

Any suggestions?

I dont know about flaky, but mine has been dry. I actually have kind of a rash thing Ive been getting in various areas, and cant tell if it might have something to do with the weight loss or allergies. Either way its irritating as sh*t.

Default Well, Kinda...

As far as dry/flaky skin, what I have experienced is only in the 2 areas I received "blood thinning" shots while in the hospital. Those areas of course bruised, and the bruise still has not broken up. I use 2 moisturizers my dermatologist recommended (lipikar and I can't remember the name of the other right now). The moisturizers have helpped stop the itchiness, but the dry flakies are still happening.

Now, I am only 3 weeks out, and have only lost around 40 lbs total so far, so I do not yet have a bunch of loose skin... So if anyone have imput, I'm still all ears, cause when I get to that point, I would like to be prepared.

Yes,

I have both flaky and dry skin now. it has been an ongoing issue from about 2 months out. I am still dealing with it but it progression seems to have slowed and maybe starting to improve.

Good luck with this, I did see a dermatologist and she changed my soaps and asked me to take showers with lower temp water. I use moisturizer on my face cheeks for sure...

I've always had hyper dry skin but it has been more of a problem since losing weight. I also have eczema.

Over the years, I've picked up a few good tips that aren't expensive.

1. Don't have your shower/bath too hot.

2. Limit the time you spend in the shower/bath.

3. Go easy with your soap/shower gel. I generally just soap the bits that matter.

4. ALMOND OIL on wet skin is amazing stuff. Shower but while still wet, rub almond oil into your skin and pat dry.

5. For really dry areas, make up a paste of fine sea salt and almond oil. Rub that into the skin - it will exfoliate the dry skin which is generally the cause of the itches. Rinse the salt off under the shower but do not use soap - that'll wash the oil off. Pat dry.

cutting fat out of our diets and this weight loss will effect our skin.

I suggest Arbonne products. Especially Re9 b/c they are all natural and do not have alcohol in them. Alochol and fragrances will dry your skin out and the mineral oil base, well, your skin doesnt absorb it, it just sits on the surface.

Any all natural moisturizer IMO, is better for your overall skin, and decreases the chances of infections from the fruity, girly soaps and lotions we love to use..

just my 2 cents

Default Hydracortizone Cream

Hyrdracortizone cream which is over the counter I use it everyday on my face and it helps with the winter dry skin. I also have eczema and I use it like lotion. It's safe and it is an ant-itch cream. I buy the equate brand from walmart and I couldn't live without it. Just don't get it in your eyes. Lisa

I have been warned by my dermatologist that prolonged use of Hyrdracortizone cream will cause a thinning and weakening of the skin.

I was a big user of this under my ostomy wafer and was told to back off. too much of a good thing ?
