Default Does anyone know?

Does anyone know why some people dump and others don't? Does it have anything to do with the surgeon's technique? Or is it just luck of the draw?

I don't dump, and I am not thrilled with that. I wish that something would make me sick, just so I had some kind of negative reinforcement.

I've never dumped either but then I've stuck with the programme and not tested myself as far as surgery or fried/fatty stuff is concerned.

My biggest fear is that I'd eat a cookie only to find that it went down with no problem cause that'd just be a green light for me to have more.

So - I made a decision early out that I was deathly allergic to candy, cakes and cookies etc. and I'd die a death of a thousand needles if that stuff passed my lips LOL And it works for me.

I looked on this (at my age) as my one and only chance of having a pain free, healthier lifestyle.

Default Not a Dumper here

I am not a "dumper" but I do have eating issues.I still vomit a few times a week with solids.Sliders , I am good there but any solids that are dense they are hit and miss with me.Hence I am still 75% liquids at 3 years out.

Gazillion of tests were done...I did have multi strictures my first year.I also had a Gastric emptying exam done under floress(sp?) and my pouch empties very slow but just borderline abnormal.

I am ODD all together...No Dumping, sweats, diarrhea, and have not dealt with the nasty gas everyone says they have.

I guess not dumping is a two edged sword...

I am a dumper but only on sugars. In some ways I wish I dumped on fats too - then I would really be kept in check. Its a blessing and a hassle at the same time.

I havent dumped yet, but I am in no rush to go out and start testing. So far everything I have eaten has been ok. I have gotten food stuck a couple times though, which is unpleasent in a very special way. I havent tried fruit yet, but I have had some chicken, and I tried a small piece of the lean part of a country rib, both of which went down and stayed down well. I just tell myself that any kind of processed sugar, greasy and high fatty foods WILL make myself sick. Kind of like what Corrine said. You have to remember that the surgery is a tool. And if you happen to not dump on anything, including sugars and fatty stuff, you just have to use your will power and knowledge to overcome it. You can still focus on just getting in lean protien and liquids in, and eating them in the right portions.

It is just luck of the digestive track. The surgery, at least in the states, has gotten to the point where every surgeon does it pretty much identically. The pouch is a standard size and the amount of intestine they bypass is also standard.

Dumping is hit or miss. I don't dump on sugar but too much carbs or fat I do. I however get low blood sugar dumping not running for the restroom dumping. So I do it... feel like crap and have an awful headache and wanna die sometimes. It's good reminder to not do that.

I myself have had issues with greasy food, foods with too much sugar, and pork. Both have made me throw up in a matter of minutes. I've found that you will test yourself to see what you can eat and for me the things I used to love DO NOT agree with my new stomach so in return I dump or throw up both which are no fun! So no it's not the surgeon but the foods we aren't supposed to have.

It is indeed wise, but knowing Corrine, I'm not in the least bit surprised by the wisdom.

I have pretty much adhered to the same principles, and I have never dumped.

The only time I have a problem is when I eat too fast, and then I get the foamies and my nose runs and I feel like crap. But at this point it is very very seldom.
