You see I have a regular psychiatrist that I visit regulary and have been on antidepressant medication since my 30's. First prozac, now effexor with many combinations in between. The psychologist was correct I wasn't ready to proceed because I gave up too easily and it wasn't until going to Dr Potts and having my psychiatrist write the letter, that I had the strength to get things done right. So keep your chin up and realize that they are making sure that you can handle this surgery and have the best outcome.

Smile Thanks, Terry

I won't give up. I have already accepted it after my first let down. I feel more positive today and know that in the 3 weeks she has given me to improve, I will improve! I know I can't make myself come out of depression but will have faith the meds will do their work. My daughter asked "What good is it if you have to take medication to not be depressed? Isn't it better to lose to weight because that is the major reason for the depression?" I am not sure if my depression is from the weight, I know it doesn't help but maybe with the therapist I can figure it out.
Keeping the Faith,
Marcia

Smile Thanks Christina

Thanks Christina,

My daughter is getting married June 25 so I'm doing my best to lose weight on my own. Now that my surgery is scheduled for May 6 I'm worried I'll be too sick but I'm keeping a positive outlook. I'm hoping I'll be back at work and feeling great after two weeks. One can dream can't they?

Terry

God I am so glad you wrote that~ I have not been on for a while, mostly because I had the shingles and the pain and nervous system related issues was so intense I havent done anything. I am about 10 days out from recovering from the shingles and I have been so low and depressed feeling. This weekend was my doozy! I thought I was dying, having a heart attack and going crazy all at the same time. I saw my docs, and most of it was shingles related (the virus attacks your nerves), but the post op blues and weakened immune system hasnt helped. I have been feeling so sad, mad and pooped all at the same time, even though I have lost the weight, my blood pressure, everything is great, I still feel down. Thanks for reminding me about the post op ride! Most of my ride has been all good, but this last 3-4 weeks has been a doozy! Thanks so much for the reminder~

Default Welbutrin can be your Yellow Brick Road to WLS =)

Marcia,

From the prospective of a past Welbutrin user, you are on a great road. Although all meds don't work the same for everybody, I went through a lot of meds, and Welbutrin was the only one that really helped me get on track. I have been off of it for a while now, but it helped me to feel better, which then allowed me the opportunity to reevaluate and rearrange my life. Things are great now, and although I have yet to have my psych exam my doctor said that two years ago I couldn't have passed, but now I have nothing to worry about. Keep your head up, and look forward to the day when you can find joy in all the simple pleasures of life. It will come!

Lightbulb Am I imagining?

Jennifer,
That is good news. I feel like I feel different I told my daughter I wasn't sure what was going on but I felt happy and anticipitory(?) for some reason. She said that is how people are supposed to feel! Can the Welbutron be working already after only a week? I guess maybe with the prozac combo it could. we'll see if the Therapist sees anything different on Tuesday than Debbi saw last week.

Jaime,
You were OK here. These discussions usually wander a bit!

Marcia,

1-2 Weeks is when you usually start seeing a difference. It is awesome because it doesn't make you feel drugged, it just balances out the chemicals in your brain and makes you want to get up in the morning, and makes you feel more ready to face the day. I think it is so exciting that you are already starting to feel the difference! Congrats on another step forward!

Default Bad News, Depression Medication!

The most important thing anyone can do for a man who may have depression is to help him get to a doctor for a diagnostic evaluation and treatment.I suppose every person who is suffering from depression to use Cymbalta and lexapro. These are used for major depression.
