Default When asked "How much have you lost?"

Do you usually count from your surgery date or if you went through a pre surgery weight loss program (6 month program for example)

I'll soon be returning to work and expect to be asked that now and I guess down the road also. I don't mind telling people, but curious what people here use for their starting weight when discussing weight loss with people. I know there probably isn't a correct answer, just wanting to know what most people do.

Thanks

I thought I posted this question earlier, but when I checked for responses I didn't see it, so I hope this isn't a double post

I give the total weight lost because it all counts in my book. Most people don't know I had surgery so the distinction doesn't apply to them anyway.

Yup, from the day I began my insurance-required plan. After all, I started that in order to qualify for GBS!

well, for those that I will tell (which is just pretty much my mom and husband) I go from my highest weight. It all counts. But I don't tell many people an actual number. I just say a lot.

My starting weight is the day I went to the seminar at my surgeon's office, which happens to be either my highest ever or very close to it.

I tell from the day I stepped on the scale at my doctors seminar on May 9, 2007. That's the weight that was recorded in my records.

Default Both!

I usually tell both numbers - "I've lost x pounds since the day of surgery, y pounds since my highest weight..." I've also gotten very comfortable telling people what the actual day of surgery and highest weights were if they want to know - it's usually when they ask how much I'm trying to lose and then start choking when I tell them that my surgeon's goal is for me to lose 255 pounds from my surgery-day weight...

Anyone else feel awkward about telling people at all? I don't mind talking about it with close friends and family, but when a casual acquaintance asks I feel kind of uncomfortable. I've lost 70 lbs yeah, but I still have more than that to go. I guess it's still just kind of hard for me to believe that I ever let myself get that far.
