Question Food Scales *Poll*

For all the Post Op people out there:

I want some feedback on food scales. I am contemplating buying one for measuring food but dont want to waste money if it really isnt needed. Can you help me decide by filling out the poll?

Thanks!

I use my scale almost every day. It helps me learn how to "eyeball" food when I'm out. Also , it helps with my calorie count. I don't count calories every day; just once a week or so to see how I'm doing.

Goal! I did it!
107 pounds gone since my RNY
121 total pounds gone forever!
I finally have a "normal" BMI
Reached my first goal of 145...and setting a new one of 135.
Reached 135 and have decided to lose another five if I can.
Reached my new goal of 130...and I think I want to stop losing now. "Stop losing now".Wow, I never thought I'd ever say that!

BMI 23

I just bought a cheap one from the local grocery store. I used it a lot the first 6 months or so and now only use it occasionally. I think it cost me like $8 or so. It probably wasn't extremely accurate but close enough. I think it is a good idea because it will train your eye to know about what certain amounts look like, that way it is easier to gauge the portion sizes when you aren't using a scale.

I used it all the time at first, now I can eyeball it but I will still do it on occasion.

I've been mostly eating microwaveable foods lately, and I just read the weight on the box. I decide how many meals I'm going to eat it for, cut the meal into pieces after it's cooked and throw the rest in the 'fridge. It's nothing scientific, but it's pretty simple, and it's getting easier to size up the portions just by looking at them.

Just a note: Gardenburger's Vegan "Riblets" are absolutely delicious! (My favorite microwaveable food). They come in a box of two each weighing 5 oz, 240 cal, 17g protein. I cut them in half and eat with either 1 oz string cheese or 1 oz Bush's Vegetarian Baked Beans. With the cheese my meals come out to 190 cal, 16.5g protein; with the beans it's 152.5 cal, 10g protein.

I use my scale constantly. To this day I can't be relied upon to guess anything.

And I actually like the whole process too - it makes me more concious about what I'm putting together.

So - scale combined with fitday.com - works for me.

Default every single time!

I weigh and/or measure ALL my food... I have three scales.. one digital with a 'tare' setting, and two that are not, but can be calibrated for the bowl manually. I keep the digital and one reg. one on my kitchen counter at all times, and one in my desk drawer at work "just in case", though I've usually pre-packed based on weight measurements ahead of time.

I also have several different sets of measuring cups and measuring spoons, with one set of each at work also 'just in case'..

I'm finding I can sort of guess the weight of some things based on eyeballing it, but I still feel more comfortable weighing. Like Corrine, I also log every morsel that goes into my mouth in FitDay (paid version).. I also keep track of every drop of liquid that goes in as well.

Last time I went to see my nut, I showed up with logs and reports.. a pie chart even

I am kind of obsessed with making sure what I eat and drink is nearly always what my body needs for sustenance, though of course, one can never be perfect.. For a while, I found it very overwhelming but I'm kind of really enjoying things ATM.

Well, mine isn't exactly a food scale. I bought a shipping scale a while back for Ebaying. I have been using it for food too. I use it a few times a week. I am really bad with eyeballing meat. I always think it is wwwaaaayyyy more than it is. I usually think "oh this is about 3 ounces", but it is usually more like 1-1.5. So it helps me get more protein in.
