OMG! I was approved today...
It took my insurance 5 days to approve my surgery, I meet with my surgeon on May 8th, hopefully sooner I am on the cancellation list. WOW things are really moving along quickly. I already had my psych evaluation a few weeks ago and was given the thumbs up. A quick question how long from you first initial consult w/ a surgeon until your surgery date? I want to take a seat on the losers bench asap!

Congrats to you!! A short approval is what everyone hopes for, sadly though, for most it doesn't happen. Your lucky! For me, approval via insurance was quick as well...10 days. However, I waited 4 1/2 months to have the surgery because I wanted it on my schedule...so it was a personal decision. A lot of others count the time they spend doing the 6 month required diet as well, so that adds into the time spent as well. To many variables as you can see, to give you a strait answer.
Congrats on your approval, we will be waiting to hear about your next big milestone..THE DATE! Welcome!

I can't remember...
but it didn't take too long. I had to jump through all the hoops first too. The psych eval, the records of attempted wieght loss etc. I didn't go through a bariatric center though so I didn't have to do the diet thing etc. Congratulations on your approval!

about 4 months for me-- initial consult was December 5th 2007 got approved on March 18th 2008. My insurance only required 2 years weight history and 3 mo nutritional program. They denied me the first time and my clinic did a peer-to-peer the next day and got it overturned!
April 21st for me!

Once I decided which surgery I wanted (initially was lap-band...but realized GBS was what I really needed) it was about 2 months. Would have been sooner, but I made another appointment with the surgeon to discuss questions I had regarding the GBS.
