I am considering WLS
I had a friend who had the surgery done a year and a half ago, and he looks GREAT! I am currently at my heaviest weight at 270lbs @ 5ft7in. My sister in law is going in to have it done the first of July, and I am part of her support team. I have went to all of her appointments, so I am very informed on the whole procedure. I am wondering about how long I will be down from the surgery. I have two kids and probably won't have much support on the home front.

For me so far.....
Hi Jodi,
I had surgery last Wed. 4/6. I am at the end of day "6" today and am feeling pretty darn good. Actually worked from home for about 4 hrs this morning (although I don't recommend this nor will anyone else nor will your doc) but it will give you some idea of how I feel at this stage at least.
I make 10 laps around my very large back yard 3 times a day quite easily. Tomorrow I am leaving the yard!
I'm off all pain meds now although my abdomen is still very, very sore. I have been getting up every day since day "3" and showering and getting dressed in something comfy.
Hope that helps. I don't know what you mean by "down" and it will be different for you as it is for everyone.
Good luck with everything.
Shelly

Welcome
Hi, Jodi
Maybe your sister-in-law can help you a little on the home front when it is your turn. I'm almost 3 weeks out and still taking it easy. Luckily, I was able to take off about 5 weeks from work. I don't know how I would have been able to handle kids in the beginning. Mine are grown, thank goodness. You'll be pretty sore and tired. Now my problem is learning what I can eat. I'm still working on that.
You came to the right place for info. The folks on this site are really amazing and inspiring. Good luck on your journey.

Jody,
Welcome Sister girl! We're glad you're here!
Everyone is different with how they deal and feel pain. Also, the recovery time varies greatly. For the most part, Dr. Callery told me if it hurts, don't do it. You must walk, sip, rest - repeat. You need to remember that you just had MAJOR surgery. Your body needs to recover at its own rate. I was off work for three weeks, wish I would have taken one more week. You are allowed 6 weeks. I felt really good at 2 1/5 weeks post op.
Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone. I know it's not going to be easy, but I really wanted to know what to expect in the aftermath. The one friend that I know that had it done had alot of major complications after his. I found this site and it pretty much helped me make the decision to go ahead and start the process. I know everyone is different, but different stories help. Thanks to everyone again for your help and stories.

Hey there....
I had my surgery last Friday, April 8th, released from Hospital this past Monday. I feel pretty good considering what I just put my body through. I walked on my treadmill for 15 minutes yesterday and today went and got a pedicure and went shopping with my mom & son. Towards the end I was a bit tired, but okay. I think I would feel 1000 times better if I didn't have this stinking drain coming out of my stomach!!!! Hopefully I'll get that out Friday. I have to say I'm ready for some protein - I know a sip of that would make me feel better/give me more energy too.
My only problem is that I'm afraid my intestines are going to split open - just my own personal phobia!!!! So I'm really careful moving around. I have not had any pain meds since the day after my surgery either.

Treadmill!??!
Less than a week out and you're on the treadmill! I don't know if I should be impressed or worried!!!
Emmy had that dang drain, too. Once it came out, she was a much happier camper...lemmie tell ya.
Man, if you're on the treadmill, you have to be feeling okay, so that makes me happy to hear!
Just be careful, that's all I'm sayin'! We care about you and stuff!

i had two of those darn drains, one for 1 week and the other for 3 weeks. Thank God that is over. glad to hear you are doing so well guys! I was able to handle all the household stuff right away. I cooked and did light housework the day I got home. It really varies from person to person. Good Luck!
