Like, you, I have been extremely tired............ *sigh*..

Tomorrow will mark 8 weeks since I had my surgery and will be my first day back on the job. I thought I'd be out only 2-4 weeks.. ha! joke was on me..

My doc was going to give me my 'return to work' certificate for last Monday, but a virus has settled into my inner ear and has caused lots of dizziness, which extended my medical leave by a week.

I worry about getting through a full day on the job tomorrow; even though it's a desk job, there is a lot I do that brings me away from that chair.... the rest of my 'department' is clear on the other side of the building, so there is a lot of back & forth going on.

I think a lot will depend on the surgery, if there are complications like there were in mine, and ones ability to heal and deal with pain and whatnot as to how long someone is out of work for this surgery.

Thanks for your response.
I had a desk job and this is how it worked for me. I had my surgery Monday morning at 6 AM. Was in recovery by noon (I guess - I really can't remember!) and then up walking around at about 4 PM. The next morning they did the leak test, and had me walk more. I left that afternoon. I went back to work the following Wednesday but only because Monday was Labor Day so they weren't open to remove the tube.

All in all, yes, you can be back to work in one week. It just depends on your body and the timing.

I had lap bypass surgery on 3/4/08 and went back to work after 1 week. I also have a desk job, and was easily tired out, but did well going back to work so soon.

MONEY IN THE BANK TO DATE......$2940
This is the running amount of money saved by not having to spend so much eating out. Number based on spending $20 a day on food. And that very conservative!!!

Surgery on Monday 21st April, came home Tuesday the 22nd, back at work Wednesday the 23rd.
I work from home so I can get up and walk or take a nap if i need to. Monday the 28th i started back full duties with phones and all no issues so far but I am up and down all day.

If I had to work outside the house, I dont think I would have gone back so soon-- I drove for the first time today and it was ok-- I wouldnt have made it if I was still working in downtown houston as its a 2 hour commute to my old workplace!

Everyone is different though.

I just had surgery Tuesday, and I swear I asked the doctor whether he did, indeed, perform surgery. I felt so amazingly good, and I still do. (Lap RNY)

Officially I can't drive for two weeks, but I have a suspicion I'll be driving within a week, at least for one event I need to get to. I feel good enough to drive right now, but ya know, I know better than to overdo it!

I'm retired, so going back to work isn't an issue. My handbook says 4-6 weeks for a desk job. I cannot lift anything over 5 pounds, and it's terribly surprising how much stuff weighs that! Even a gallon of milk is 8+ pounds!

Keep in mind, every person has a unique experience, and if there are any complications, they add to recovery.

Best luck!
