Hi Blair! Here is what Midol has in it.
Active Ingredients (in each caplet) Purpose
Acetaminophen 500 mg . . . . . . . . . . . Pain reliever
Pamabrom 25 mg . . . . . . . . . . . Diuretic
Pyrilamine maleate 15 mg . . . . . . . . . . . Diuretic
It should be fine. Only concern I would have is the diuretic in it. Diuretics are fine, I actually am on a prescribed one but you do need to make sure you up your fluid intake if you are taking any kind of diuretic.

Thanks! I always make sure to drink lots of water on any medication.
I am on a new birth control and it gives me cramps and PMS [which I didn't get before, haha, but then again I was never "regular" before birth control]
Anyway, thanks again for your input!

Shannon, Pepto Bismol is an NSAIDs. When you are looking at labels keep your eyes open for the word Salicylates. That is one indication that it is a type of NSAIDs.
Another name for Pepto Bismol is Bismuth Subsalicylate
Another indication that the drug may be an NSAIDs is to read the contraindications. If it makes some kind of comment about not taking it if you have ulcers or a bleeding problem then that should cause a little red flag to go up in your mind. More than likely that drug will be an NSAIDs.
For example this is the warning that goes along with Pepto Bismol
Quote:
Do NOT use Pepto-Bismol Suspension if:
you are allergic to any ingredient in Pepto-Bismol Suspension
you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to aspirin or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) (eg, ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib)
you have bleeding problems (eg, hemophilia), active bleeding ulcer, black or bloody stools, or Von Willebrand disease
you are taking another salicylate medicine (eg, aspirin)
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

MiladyB, I was wondering if you knew if we can do the nasal sprays, I have a cold and I'm ok with the achy body and feeling crappy but I hate a stuffy nose. I can't sleep and I have always used the Nasal 12 hour decongestant but I'm afraid to try it. Would you happen to know if it's ok to use.
Thank you,
Blay

Blay, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be a problem at all. Decongestents don't pose a problem for us post-op. So I would say it should be fine to use.

Is it all for naught???
Nov. 24 I had a large synovial cyst removed from my lower spinal canal along with 2 fusions below the cyst. I was in the hospital 8 days and it took them 4 days to finally get my pain somewhat under control. (This is mainly because the nurses were giving me only half the pain meds ordered by my doc because they were worried I would stop breathing). Sadists.
Now that I am home, I am still on pain meds and wearing a delightful hard shell brace. So very attractive. I digress.
I am on the liquid oxycodone, 2 tsp. every 4 hours...a 5 mg valium every 8 hours and 1 30 mg. oxycontin pill every 12 hours.
I have been reading here about pain meds and how they are absorbed and know that the oxycontin must be a slow release medication. I still have quite a bit of pain and am now wondering if taking this is for naught. Is it having any effect whatsoever if it doesn't have time to "release" into my system?
The people working at my neurosurgeons office seem to be oblivious to the needs of gastric bypass patients; though the health care provider they are associated with (Aspirus) is a center of excellence for gastric bypass surgery...or at least that is what I was told.
I has to struggle with them just to get the liquid oxycodone.
I would appreciate any input into this as I need to get this pain under control and speed up the healing process. I'm going to be in this brace for probably another month and hope to be out of it soon after. But this isn't going to happen without the correct pain meds.
Thank you for your support...many hugs to all...the mums
