I got an appointment this Thursday at the hospital in/out patients. I get to see Dr. Farries directly to see why this heartburn is so bad. It was either this time or a month and a half from now to see him in his office.

Default Tums

Has anyone every heard of replacing your calcium pill with Tums. The ingredients in Tums is pure Calcium???? That would also help with your heartburn. I also take otc prilosec, Dr. said forever!

You can't use Tums for your calcium because it's calcium carbonate. After surgery you need calcium citrate. Your body can't process the carbonate now that you are bypassing such a large portion of your stomach.

Thank you for the information you two. Unfortunately, nothing is working at this time. I have heartburn 24/7 and nothing is helping. Hopefully, my surgeon will have some answers. I didn't know the info about calcium citrate and calcium carbonate. Good to know. Thank you.

Went and saw my surgeon the other day. He gave a prescription for heart burn medication and I have to have a gastroscopy on April 4. He is going to see if I have an ulcer or if something else is going on. I was really surprised that he did something right away. Usually it takes 2 or 3 appointments of me fighting with him to get anything done. I am really glad he was having a good day that day.

How's your heartburn doing? What meds did he give you?

Hope you're feeling better too!

*hugs*

Today wasn't the day of the gastroscopy. It is April 4 that I have it. One more month to go. I got these huge cow pills that I have to take 4 times a day. It is really hard to take them especially when I eat 4 to 5 meals a day. I am not allowed to eat 2 hours after or 1 hour before so it makes it tough to get all my meals plus the pills in. So, I am trying to figure out how I am going to do that. I haven't started them yet but am tomorrow because the heart burn is getting really bad. The pills the surgeon prescribed me are called Sucralfate. I believe it is to help heal any ulcers that I might have.
