Default Bowel habits

I apologize for the forward nature of this question/questions but I've heard some "horror" stories about people having difficulty with fecal incontinence and pretty uncontrollable flatulence - does anyone have any insights around that? This didn't come up when I had my surgery consult.

Well, I did have one time when I didn't quite make it to the bathroom in time! My cute little snowflake jammies paid the price! It was right after surgery though....I've never had any problems like that since. There was a week when I had "bad potty" several times a day...but once I stopped taking the Prevacid, that went away. I actually have very regular, normal consistancy, nothing to write home about, bowel habits! I'm lucky I guess!!! My co-worker had the surgery a few months before me, and she still has issues where she'll crap her pants! So, everyone is different. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones!

I'm quite the opposite and usually have to take some Milk of Magnesia to get things moving out. But flatulence, yes. Definitely a gassy guy.

Okay..so.....

the times that person has had accidents - was it in response to eating something higher in fat or?

And in terms of flatulence - can medication be prescribed?

Shannon, do a search and read Debz's "High Price of Gas" it's really funny and it deals with what you are asking but in a very funny way. I would insert the link but I don't know how.

I'm sorry, I thought it was funny, made me laugh so much. I was pre-op when I read it and it didn't make me nervous. I say it will be worth it, I'm 5 days out of surgery and I already feel a difference. I had terrible pain in my right heel from my weight and only five days out and its gone. Everything comes with a price but I think that price will be worth it.

/for me, diarrhea started while I was still in the hospital, They said it was from the stuff we had to drink to check for leaks, It has decreased in frequency but is still present. The gas is much improved one week home from the hospital. I expect things to improve even more as I eat more solid food.

I haven't had any issues in that department, pretty regular every morning but "consistancy" is a lot different to pre op!

If you are this concerned about some diarrhea or gas perhaps you should look at other avenues of weight loss. This is major surgery and there are many more real complications that occur. Do some research.
