In the beginning, things were a bit smaller and softer, but then again, I had a brand new pouch trying to figure things out. I would go about 5 times a week. Now - I am normal, and can tell you the time of day by when I go - I am that regular. Never had an accident, though.
On another note - once you start a vitamin/supplement regimin, you may notice various colors depending on what you are taking...ie: iron turns it sort of green...FYI

I do need the surgery due to co-morbities and other avenues of weight loss have not worked for me. It's just that I can't imagine crapping my pants at work, I'd like to be prepared if that's a realistic fear.

It shouldn't be that severe...you still have the sensation to know when you have to go and when you don't

I had very loose bowels for the first few days after surgery but I didn't have any accidents - came close a couple of times though. The doc warned me beforehand that it might happen.
After that, I had the opposite problem of constipation.

I can honestly say that I've never had that issue. I tend to lean more towards the constipation side of the equasion. I do get gas sometimes, but there are medicines out there, like Gas-X thinstrips that you can take, to help with that. Honestly gas and pooing issues should really be the LEAST of your worries. Getting enough fluids and protein and exercise are much bigger obsticles IMO.
Like Duckie said, you really need to do your homework on this because you really seem to be focusing on the small stuff rather then the big picture.

Please understand that I did realize/understand from my own research (which is a work in progress) that there would problems with potentially diarreah or constipation but it didn't seem to be a significant issue from what I read. I subsequently met two people at a weight loss surgery support group that had significant issues. One person had accidents to the point that they were not able to retain employment (someone told me afterwards they thought he had the duodenal switch surgery) and the other person reported that they had such marked difficulty with these issues that it caused social problems that it made her sorry she had pursued the surgery despite her weight loss. Those words can't help but ring in your mind a bit. I also can't find them written in much of what I've read so I wasn't sure if I was off-base.
I am aware that the compelling side effects that I need to think about are infection of the wound, bleeding, a leak either at the staple life or at the site of the reattachment, peritonitis, blood clots, death, etc. as an immediate or short term side effect. Longer term issues are narrowing of the stomach pouch, frequent vomiting, diarreah, ulcer formation (that one does scare me), gallstones (not something I'd desire), a hernia, a bowel obstruction (not something I want) and nutritional deficiencies that could lead to anemia, b-12defieiency, and osteoporosis. I am looking at having a bone density test done before I begin and I hope that as long as I am compliant with vitamins that'll work out.

Never crapped my pants at work or any other place for that matter. I had contipation issues before surgery and had a few after, but if I eat properly, keep up the fluids, I have no issues.
Yes the farts do happen, don't they with everyone. Yes maybe the fart and poop smell is a little more now than before, but its no big deal...the intestine doesn't process the food like it did and I don't eat like I did before.
If anyone asked me outright if I had bathroom issues now, the answer would be no. Previous to surgery I would say yes.
Sorry the post is graphic, but its reality.

I have had permanent diarrhoea since day three post op. I have to take loperamide every day to control it but sometimes I do have accidents (once in the car when travelling ) If I know I am going out I take extra capsules which blocks me up for a day. I do wonder if I have this because I suffered with irritable bowel pre op?
