Default Dr. changes goal??

In an effort to keep up with me, my nutritionist has re-set my goal weight. They had started at 190, which I of course passed, so here I am at 165, and finally, they re-vamp to 150. If the people lead, the leaders will follow.

Very entertaining. She was talking to me about the body setting itself, not fixating on a number etc. So I started talking about mass verses muscle power on the bike. I was like, "I'm going to lose more so I can go faster on the bike, see? I can't win races if I weigh more than I can push at 22 mph..." She stared at me for a while, and finally was like..."Maybe 150 is a good goal then." Sheesh. 18 months of arguing and finally, she gets it!

But I am actually pleased to feel like they haven't dismissed me as a success story wasting their time with follow-up appointments. What will they do when I get down to 135 though??

You'd be a fine 135 . . . TINY . . . but fine. Then you will be one of those people that they ALWAYS refer to in the sessions . ... the girl who surpassed all the goals set and now is this extremely fit person!!!

Laura you are so funny. You can do 10k on a bike in like, 10 minutes. I have already done 100K, (called a metric century) and plan to try the real century as soon as the snow melts. I LOVE doing long distances. You get all crazy in the head and it all blurs into this really basic, survival thing. Very cool. Puts me at my most primitive, my most basic, core self. Gets to be just me and God out there - I wish I could explain it better. Everything else melts away. It is muscles, drive, spin, push, water, gel packs, eat, spin, push...There is no way to communicate the rush - oh - and the speed. Man. I've seen 37 mph on the bike, it is like flying. A lot like the motorcycle, really, only it is my own sweat that takes me there - way cool.

My worry is that I "should" be closer to 145 by my first race in April. That is a lot to lose in 4 months. I have only lost 10 pounds in the last 6 months so I'd have to do something VERY different to lose 20 in 4 - but I know if I can get focused enough, I can do it. It is the food darn it! I can work out till I drop, but I've lost enough that if I screw up food for even a day - that is it for the weight loss for the week, you know? Different kind of pressure these days.

Anyway, I know that even if I'm still 165, I'll just go out and race anyway. I won't win, which I most likely could if I weren't carrying the extra mass, but who knows??

Great to hear from you dear!

Talking You wanna ride??

Hey Gina - if you want a real bike ride , come to Iowa for RAGBRAI. There's 10,000 registered participants every year and even more for the daily ride alongs. Last year, Lance Armstrong even joined in. A week long ride across Iowa in July. Hills, humidity, Century rides, dip your rear tire in the Missouri at the beginning and your front tire in the Mississippi when you're done. Now there's a bike ride!!! (And P.S.: I don't think I could EVER do it!! LOL)

Gina, you amaze me more every day girl..what an inspiration. You kick butt and like I always said, I traded in my obesity for my health, and hope one day to be able to put in the determination for that kind of exercise....muscle weighs more than fat - so the numbers on the scale are just numbers, but your rock!
