Default Odd question to ask...i know but.......

In general if you have a lap rny, how many days do you stay is the hospital? My second issue is ....I do not have very supportive group of friends. Is it possiable to not share surgery information with them? To be painfully honest the kids at my sons school already make fun of me. I do not want to be even more under the microscope.

Any help you may offer I would appreciate. I went into all of this thinking Lap Band but I am changing to Lap RNY. Thank you for your time.

My surgeon says the hospital stay for RNY is 2-5 days. I stayed for 4 days due to some numbness in my leg and slight dehydration but I think 3 days is the average.

I think I only told 1 friend (she lives out of state) that I was having surgery. And some online friends from a different forum but nobody besides my family knew. You aren't entitled to tell anyone anything if that's what you want, especially if they're not supportive.

Oh sweetie. I ached when I read this but only because I was in the exact same situation.

Remember kids are cruel. The ones at my kiddos school were actually the ones who started me on my journey toward gastric bypass. I did not want Ash to get teased or ever be ashamed of me. Ultimately tho' you have to do it for no one but yourself.

I guess the length of your hospital stay depends on your surgeon. My stay started on Friday (the day of surgery) and then I was released Sunday afternoon.

Tell only who you want to tell. Although it is important to have some support. For example, I cannot drive for four weeks and so someone else needed to take and pick up Ash from school. Someone else has to get groceries and do any heavy lifting etc.

I decided on bypass rather then lap band because personally I need the threat of misery if I put something in my mouth I'm not suppose to. I'm convinced now that it was the absolute correct decision for me because my head hunger has gone crazy.

Good luck whatever you decide.

And btw when kids make fun of me Ash just tells them "well your mom has gotta be ugly cuz you have an ugly face" That was not recommended or prompted by me but neither did i discourage him. Weight discrimenation is real. It is the most accepted prejudice and not enough people fight it.

Default My stay.

I stayed in 3 days. The day of the operation I stayed in the bed. The next day I was up walking as much as I could take. The nurses on that unit and my wife (a nurse also) pushed me to move and I was sent home late on day three.

Do what the Dr. says and listen to your body and you will be fine.

Good Luck

I had mine on the 27th and am home today the 28th. And I had a very hard time talking only because of my own issues. everyone who I have talked with I know are supportive. Where are you from? Can you find local support?
