Default I had a bad/weird episode. I don't know what's wrong.

So, a few weekends ago I had myself a peice of toast with peanut butter then sat down to watch a movie with my boyfriend in my sister.
I started to feel a lump feeling in my stomach/throat, which isn't very uncommon for me. It happens to me a lot with chicken and it usually goes away within a half hour with a little aid of some H20[slow sips].. but during that time I feel nauseous but I cannot puke [I haven't since surgery, it's odd].

Well, this time it was accompanied by two sharp pains in the top of my ribcage. I just felt like crap, and I tried sipping water, and it helped then made me feel sick again. Over and over. My hands started shaking and I just tried to breathe. It really sucked, and the pain in my ribs started moving downward.

This is where it got weird... I was laying on the ottoman, trying to just lay and help the pain go away by rubbing my ribs. I could feel my abdomen [from under my bust line to my belly button] shaking. It was like my abs were convlusing, and I couldn't do anything but try to control the shake. My boyfriend was being really supportive and got me some cold water and a cold towel for my forehead and rubbed my back. After about 45 minutes it went away, but it was so scary.

It happened later that week when I ate some grapes. My mom said I probably had a stomach virus, but I never want to experience that again.

What do you guys think it was? Have any of you experienced anything simillar ?

Well you are much further out than I am, but that describes how I feel if I take too big of a bite, don't chew well enough, or eat too fast. I am in pain and feel sick for 30-40 minutes easily. About 75% of the time I am physically sick on top of it.

Perhaps if it continues you should call your doctor/surgeon.

How far out are you, Sweetie? I hate to say this, but that sounds like symptoms I had before my bowel became obstructed. It kept getting harder and harder to get food past the knot I could actually feel in my abdomen right around the anastomosis site. Ultimately, nothing could pass, and the pain I experienced was unlike anything I ever thought my body could manifest. Long story, and one too scary to relate, but I recommend contacting your surgeon with this info and see if he/she orders any testing. Don't be a martyr like I thought I was--it only makes it worse in the end. It's not normal pain, please have it checked out. I was 1 year (almost to the day) of being out. It nearly killed me--please don't postpone!

Let us know what you find out, Love. We care about you and I don't want to see one other person have to endure the agony I went through. Take care!!!

I'm a year and a half out.

It hasn't happened since those two times, but if it happens again, i'll contact my surgeon.

I sure hope that's the end of it for you--I cannot emphasize how painful and deadly an obstruction can be. I remember a gentleman on the forum relaying a story about having chicken with broccoli and he didn't chew the broccoli well enough and ended up having obstruction surgery also. Chew chew, Darlin'!!

How have your classes been this semester? You're about done for the year, aren't you? Hope your efforts have paid off and you have a lovely holiday and winter break. Stay well, and keep us posted, k?

Oh Blaire - so sorry this happened to you!! Donnas advice is dead on to see your surgeon if it happens again. When I forst started to read your post I though it might be a bad dump on the peanut butter (I can't handle the fat in too much...like 1/2 a teaspoon is too much), but then grapes this far out had me concerned. Take care of you love, and please keep us posted.

Ahem - who's the boyfriend - nosey peeps like me wanna know

Alright it happened again earlier today. Not as severe but still. After eating two club crackers and a bite of home-made veggie soup.

Could it possibly be from something that's already sitting in my tummy?

Anyway, I had a bit of water and my body got a wave of heat.

I decided to try and go potty[TMI I know, but you guys understand] and it helped so much.

After an hour I was able to finish my soup [4-6 ounces] and a few crackers.

On another note, i'm going to give my surgeon a call after the holidays and make an appointment during my christmas break.
