Hey Everyone, Well I was wondering how a person goes about starting a support group in their area? There are several RNY patience around but no support groups unless you want to travel a couple hours one way. Anyone have any suggestions? Honestly I am not sure how too go about it but I am sure there has to be people in my area in need of the group meetings.

That is a great question! I'm in Illinois too! Southern Illinois though. I have to go two hours for a support group too, so I don't go. I get all my support here, but it would be great to have some people in my area that I could get together with or if you aren't too far I would love to come to one of yours (if you get it going). I think that I would start with an ad in the local paper and maybe some flyers at the local doc's offices and clinics. Just a thought! Let me know if things work out and let me know where you are at maybe we could get together sometime!

I suggest getting approval from your surgeon as well as other area surgeons as well as hospitals, and post a flyer about meeting dates and times. Make sure its always on the same day, same place and time. Just announce it and then see who shows up. Dont host food or anything like that, just have folks BYOB, bring their own beverage!
