Default RNY under 200 lbs

Has anyone had the lap rny and were under 200 lbs when they went in for the surgery? I know that the weightloss is variable depending on how much you weighed before surgery so I was wondering about what others have had for their weightloss numbers when they were under 200 lbs. or close to it. Your advise as always is apreciated.

I'm not a medical professional, but my understanding is, it's less a question of HOW MUCH a person weighs, as it is what their BMI is. RNY gastric bypass is generally recommended in people whose BMI's are over 40, or over 35 with co-morbidities (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.).

Are there surgeons out there who would perform a RNY on someone with a BMI under 35? Probably... but should they be? Hmm... that's up for debate.

Well I was aproved they are doing my surgery along with another one which they were planning to remove a few feet of my intestine durring anyways. I was just wondering becuase I have read that the weight loss is based on percentage of body weight but I do not know that timeline and those percentages

I went to the BMI calculator at this website http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ and your BMI is 33.7.
That's low for most surgeon's to perform WLS. I know mine would not do it.

Mine would not do it either... they do have a full weight loss program tho... and there are other ways to medically lose weight... I'd check into those before surgery!

DO NOT THINK ABOUT PILING ON POUNDS just to "get" the surgey... Bad, bad idea!

It also seems that some of the people with the most serious post op complications were right on the edge BMI and weight-wise. I'd really think twice about getting the surgery at such a low BMI. However, in the event that you go through with the surgery, I wish you the best of luck.

Well I am going through with the surgery it is already aproved by both the docs and the surgeons so I am not stressing that. I am a little concerned but both my surgeons have a 700-0 fatality rate so I am happy for that. Like I said previously, this surgery is being coupled with a few other that i will be undergoing all at one time. I am going to have part of my intestine removed, a tumor removed and part of my pancrease may have to get remove depending on the position of the tumor so it is all happening at one time. I have not stressed about it to much as I know this is the best and is for the best medically. My surgeon said the weight loss part will be slower since my body will have a lot to heal from and becuase of the bmi. Either way they feel this is the right thing since I am suffereng from sugars above 500 and that is with the meds and insuline. Most of that will change when the tumor is off my pancreas (sp) and with the surgery.

I have also heart that the american instiute for bariatrics is now going to change he name to bariatrics and metobolic surgery. I thought that was interesting.

Well I will know more after my preop tomorrow.
