Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk...
Last night at the East County Support Group meeting I mentioned that I had just signed up for the Breast Cancer 3 day walk October 14 – 16, 2005 at www.the3day.org. I joined my friend’s team, "Walking BooBees". I am hopeful that those of you that could not previously, due to physical limitations, join me this year.
I’m doing this for all the women who are or will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I’m doing this for my mother, sister, daughter, family, friends, and co-workers. I’m doing this for the men and women that love these women. I’m doing this to find a cure. I’m doing it as a physical challenge for myself. As many of you know, I was not physically able to walk 20 miles for three days straight in the past. Now that I’m 86 pounds lighter, my knees don’t hurt all the time, my back doesn’t ache, the swelling in my legs and ankles is gone, I ‘m willing to work towards a goal that benefits and challenges me and benefits others at the same time. What a great fit!
I am starting a walking regime in order to work up to this challenge. I am posting this on the forum because I want others to join me by either joining our team or starting another one. I think Gerry was looking at starting one with his boss. Or, join me in walking around Miramar Lake at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays, starting Sunday, March 20th. On this first walk, we plan to take it easy, only doing 3 miles (to make the complete circle around the lake is 6 miles) working up to more miles as the date approaches.
If you’re not physically able at this time to join us, I’ll be hittin’ you up for a donation of any size to meet my goal of collecting $2,500, by October 1.
God bless you for your consideration.

Walking
I have thought about it, and I really want to do this with you guys. I'm going to get over myself and sleep in a tent. I have a Grandma that lost her life to brest cancer, and I have a co-worker that is a survivor. She is older and un-able to walk that far, so I will be doing it for them. When I put it all in prespective I see that sleeping in a tent is nothing compared to what some women have had to go through. SO where do I sign up? What do I do?
I can't meet Sunday the 20th for walking, but I will be at the next one's. I will walk a little longer on the treadmill at the gym tonight.

Jeanie,
I'm so dang proud of you! Log onto the web site. Click on the link for San Diego. Register, but sign up for a team, Walking BooBees. We'll bring all the comforts from home to make your tent stay non-tramatic!
You'll need to attend an orientation. I'm going to the one in Rancho Bernado on March 19th from 10 - 11:30 a.m. If this day is good for you or anyone else interested, meet me at my house and I'll drive North from there. You can sign up on-line for the orientation too.

What a wonderful thing to do! Not just for the fund raising, but just being able to be involved and being able to walk that far! I would love to join in, but I'm all the way in Illinois! I would love to donate and help you reach your goal. Email me with info so I can get some money to you! Good luck!

About the walk
Hey chicken, do EVERY walker have to raise $2500 or each team? Raising that much money for me could be tough!

Good for you, Kim!
My Aunt and I did the 3-day in San Francisco in 2002 - it was an incredible experience, and I'm very proud of the fact that I walked every mile despite being over 300 lbs. Ironically, my Aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer last January and spent all of 2004 in chemo, radiation, and with a variety of surgeries. She made it through and was medically cleared to return to work about a month ago - we joke that it was a good thing we raised all of that money!
It's a difficult walk, but an absolutely amazing experience. Let me know if you have any questions or need any support - You go girl!
Love ya, B

Gidget and Marie,
"Hey chicken, do EVERY walker have to raise $2500 or each team? Raising that much money for me could be tough!"
Yes. Here's the small print. Every walker has to commit to raising $2,100. I rounded it up as a personal goal. I may have a hard time too raising this amount. If you join a team, it helps because if someone is over and has met goal, they can defer their funds to you. That's important for me.
Marie to answer your question, "what happens if you don't raise the money?" They provide you with two options. One, chip in yourself what you need to meet goal; two, don't walk. You crack me up girl! Poster sales...LOL
I know it's alot of money. I'm not a hard sell kind of person either, but I'm going to do my best. I feel that if I can't meet goal, I still win because I'm fitter for trying. You know what I mean? I'm going to walk and train like I'm going to do it. I'm going to try my best to collect enough, if I fall short, I will make sure that I am confident that I did everything I could to raise the money.
