My Thanksgiving meal was my first real test. And I was a bit anxious about it.

All the traditional foods that I love, and now a whole new approach.

Dyann, you are absolutely right about developing the right habits for the first six months. My general fear (of dumping) and new habits allowed me to enjoy Thanksgiving tremendously, utilizing portion control and awareness of what I was eathing. I chose not to do the desserts, I chose to eat more white meat turkey than anything else. But I did have a spoonful of all the other delicacies that I always enjoy. I felt full after about 30 minutes of eating and socializing, and I pushed away from the table. I probably had eaten 3/4 cup of food.

I can't believe it. The first time ever that I could do that, or that I was "programmed' to do that. I thank so many on this forum for setting me up for this important event.

Later, in the evening, I experienced another first. I microwaved a 100 calorie bag of popcorn, and shared it half and half with my husband. I ate one kernel at a time, chew chew chew, and it was fine. I was terrified of popcorn and worried that my pouch wouldn't like it. Another experiment with a very good result.

I also had my first carbonated diet Sprite. Mmmmm, delicious. 7.5 months out, and it is such fun to be able to enjoy food, eat (for the first time in my life) like a thin person, and feel good about it all.

Again, my thanks to so many who have been my inspiration(s) here on TT.

Teri, you may be right - I know it was a definite no-no for the first several months, just as using a straw was. However, I do both now with no ill effects. I don't drink a LOT of soda, never have. It's just nice to know that I can have one now and then.

What I know I can NEVER do (and I am speaking only for myself here) is eat anything with refined sugar. Even if my pouch can handle it, I just don't want to go there anymore. It reminds me of other times - fat and unhealthy times.

I feel I did pretty good for Turkey Day Dinner...didn't over do..had a few mouthfuls and I was done! Later I did have a sliver of apple pie and a teaspoon of homemade cranberry ice cream! The first "goodies" for me since surgery in July!

Now there's Christmas and all those baked goodies to get past! I already decided no baking for me this year...too much of a temptation! But the grandkids were disappointed so I offered to come to their homes to bake with them and then leave the goodies there!
