You'll be surprised at all the motivating factors that get you to exercise more after surgery.
- You're stuck at home, recuperating, and the walls close in and there's nothing on tv that you haven't seen before, so you really want to get out of the house.
- The first 10 days of liquid diet will probably be the fastest weight loss you've ever had. You'll shed a number of pounds and start noticing loose skin in a number of areas. Weight training helps to alleviate loose skin.
- You're watching the pounds drop and you are so ecstatic, yet impatient in that you want to lose it all now. You start trying to find ways to accelerate your loss.
- You actually feel better! Most people who are on meds quickly go off of them; your feet and joints feel better with every pound you lose; you're not out of breath as fast.
- You start to finally realize that you have permanently ended your battle with yo-yo dieting, and the feeling of realizing that, if you follow the rules, you will surely make your goal FINALLY, is absolutely amazing.
I was a big walker before surgery (averaged about 35 miles per week at one point), but it's so much easier now that I'm 40 lbs thinner! Walking with Karen and Bridget at Lake Murray has been great. In less than a week's worth of walks (4x), I'm now walking 15 minute miles. At my old weight, it took me almost 3 months to get to that level and not feel like I was going to die.
I heard all of these great things on the message boards before I had the surgery. I had no idea how incredible this journey really was. It's the best decision I've ever made.
