It took 2 weeks. You smoke the 1st week then day 7 or so you're supposed to quit. I had a rough time week 2, but only smoked a pack or so as opposed to 2 packs a day. By the end of week 2 I was off cigarettes completely. Now I'm just over 6 months & off the chantix. And I'm still not smoking, nor do I want to.
It isn't instantaneous. It has to build up but it does work. I know several people who have used it successfully also.

Good luck.

Default Chantix rules

My surgery is tomorrow. I quit smoking July 10th. Yeah for me!!!

I am a walking commercial for Chantix. I had tried a lot of different methods to quit. Nothing even compares to Chantix. I started to feel it 3 days after taking it. By day 7 (recommended quit date), I knew it was going to work. I had absolutely no physical withdrawal whatsoever, none, nada, nothing.

All I had to kick was the "habit" - or my brain - however you want to look at it. I would reach when I got in the car, I would look at the clock at break time and reach etc. The old deal about 21 days to break a habit is so true. That's about how long it took before I wasn't reaching any more.

I've never had another drag since my quit date. I don't want to. It's been really easy. I know they recommend you stay on Chantix for 90-120 days, but I took the starter pack (28 days) and that was it. Didn't need it anymore.

And, just for reference, I was a pack a day smoker for 21 years.

Wow that's awesome. I took it for 5 months & would have gone 6 if not for my WLS. I am a walking commercial for it also. I smoked 2 packs a day for nearly 30 years (I CANNOT even believe that) & quit just like that after that 2nd week. No withdrawl, no cravings. It is truly amazing stuff.

Default Thank you all for replying to my blog!!

See.. I HAVE quite.. I am on day 8/9 now.. no sneeking, no puffs, no taste, drags... NO CIGARETTES for 9 days straight now!!! Whoo hoo! I love the Chantix, they do make me a little sick to my stomach at some points when I consume them.. but if you take them as instructed, they work great.

What I am trying to get out of someone with this blog is.. With me just quiting 9 days ago and my surgery comming up in the next 2/3 months (they haven't given me an exact date yet) AM I GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET THIS DONE STILL?? My surgeon said they required me to quite 6 months prior.. IF GIVEN THE NICOTINE BLOOD WORK, WITH ONLY HAVING QUIT 2/3 MONTHS INSTEAD OF 6 MONTHS BEFORE SURGERY, WILL I STILL GET THE SURGERY???

I am sorry to have capsed a lot of my questions, but I am trying to emphasize.. I quit.. I am not looking back. I always felt guilty and moronic for smoking but felt even worse after I had quit for 13 months when I was pregnant and breastfeeding and picked it back up again.

I do know that the smoking CAN effect my rate of healing and complications and I SO WANT TO BE HEALTHY.. I want this more than ANYTHING!!! I don't plan on being moronic and picking it up again after surgery.. the whole purpose of me putting myself through such extreme messures is to come out being a healthy person.. I have had weight issues for 20 years of my life. I am 28. I was always at least 50lbd-125lbs overweight..even as a younger teen. I soo want this and just don't want me to have already blown it... So.. this is why I posted this.. Thank you again for the replies..

I don't know about that. You should call your surgeon's office & ask them. Better to know upfront if they're going to postpone you. Sorry I can't answer that for you.

To be honest with you, I quick for 2 months before I got approved on 09/18, and then smoked off and on until the MORNING BEFORE MY SURGERY. I had my last one Monday morning and then surgery on Tuesday. My doc knew I had started back and told me to knock it off but he didn't flip.

Did they test me? I have no idea. My surgery started on time and finished early, and I've healed GREAT. My lap holes have already closed and it's been less than a week!

Good luck! I told everybody that I was starting back after surgery dammit, cause if I couldn't eat, I was damn sure gonna smoke!

(Haven't done it yet though!)

I'm trying to be nice here. Just don't think we should advertise and brag about bad and unhealthy behavior to the point of sounding influential to someone else, especially when we all had this surgery to become HEALTHY. Just blows me away. Same as saying...."I'm being destructive and neglegent, it's okay, go ahead, you will be fine, let's kill ourselves together. We had this very invasive and life-threatening surgery and put our lives on the line to be healthy, but let's jump off this cliff together, we will float down and it won't hurt us at all!" Bullshit is what I say! The truth is YOU WILL NOT BE FINE! Personally, I wouldn't have wasted my time and agony with the surgery if I was still on a self-destructive course. Attitude is a major part of success..... As far as surgeons ignoring destructive behavior....I don't like docs who just care about the money! And yes I do work in the medical field, as do several others here and they all know where I'm coming from. That's all I better say about that one....or I WILL be in trouble! LOL

Kieley, I'm happy you PM'd me hon. I'm SO PROUD of you for quitting! You are really doing it this time! Like you said......Don't look back girl! There are some of us standing in front of you pulling you across to the other "healthy" side. Your spot is warmed up and waiting on the bench...let's just pray for a Jan. date! I can't wait to watch your success.

Duckiepoo....you're on my crapper list.....get that script honey. I love ya girl! You're too precious to me to keep doing this to yourself. Call me sometime...I miss ya!

Dang, I wasn't bragging, she asked for honesty and I gave it. And my doc does care about his patients, or he wouldn't have told me to stop. I wasn't a smoker when I went to see him in August so he never brought it up again. Why would he?

Since I haven't had a cigarette again, what else can I do to saunter down my self destructive path?????

Hi I am waiting for insurance approval and my doc told me I had to quit smoking.I am using chantix and like the other people I have tried to quit before and nothing worked.Chantix is working great for me.I do have some side effects though.I am having some trouble sleeping and if i dont eat with the medicine I throw up.So I would strongly reccomend that you give it a try.I will be happy to be your quitting buddy!
