Pittsburgh area surgeons
Well my surgeon has left the practice I really liked him, and now I have to choose a new doc for follow up.
I went to the Dept of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Magee, and do want to stay with this practice. I know there are a couple on here who went to Dr. Courcoulas, but I don't want to go to her. Has anyone else gone to another doc in this practice? I would love to know your experience and recommendations. Thanks!!

Hi Rachael, I also go to Magee...I have Dr. Eid, who I really like so far. I am still pre-op (1/2 way through my 6 months of classes). Is Dr. Raftopoulos the dr. you switched to? How do you like him?

Dr. Raftopoulos is the one who did my surgery, and has left the practice. I saw Dr. Eid for my 6 month follow up. He was fine (and easy on the eyes too ) I think I would have been confident in his abilities if he had done my surgery. I was just sad to see Dr. R leave. I really liked him.

I have told you before Dr. Ramanathan did my surgery and I really liked him. I also love his nurse, Ellen. She is wonderful! Good luck on your search!

Dr. Eid is a cutie, isn't he? He is easy to talk to, which is a good quality in a doctor, IMO.
Just curious (since you went to the same practice), how long did it take from the time your insurance approved you until you got scheduled for surgery? Also, do you remember how long you were on the different 'phases' of the diet? (liquid, etc)

My dr. is in the same practice. They called me to say they submitted my paperwork and I got a date that day. I was approved within a few days.

Thanks Renee. You got a surgery date BEFORE your insurance approved everything? Wow.
I'm assuming that you did the 6 month lifestyle program through Magee. If so, how long was it after your last class until your surgery?

Yep, I got my date when they told me they submitted it to the insurance co.
I did not do the lifestyle program at magee. I went to my PCP for the 6 months weight ins. The day of my surgery was actually my 6th month visit, so I guess I only had 5 visits. Not sure how that happened, but it worked to my advantage!! GOod luck

Wow, that worked out really well for you. I half-way thought about doing the 6 month diet through my PCP, but I was kind of afraid things would get messed up for insurance. It would have been alot more convenient though (and saved me $500)...I live near Mt Pleasant, and work in Greensburg, so no matter which I drive from, Magee is a bit of a drive for me. Unfortunately, I'm taking alot of my vacation time to make it to appointments, but the end result will be worth it.
BTW, your weight loss so far is great!
