Curious
I am going tomorrow for my pre-op testing. Is there anyone out there who is sorry they had the GBS? I am very excited about having this done but am also a little nervous, almost like pre-wedding jitters. I know when it is over I'll laugh at myself but right now I need some reassurance.

I am not sorry... But I wanted to warn you about " buyer's remorse "...
A week after my surgery when I was home and starting to think about what I had done I had a MOMENT of buyer's remorse... and then it went away.
I had a few moments where I cried and wondered why I had let myself get so heavy that I needed WLS... It just flooded over me... I cried it out and talked to my husband and best friend... and then I realized it was the best thing for me...
Now seven weeks out I can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done... I'm sure I'll have days that I wonder if I was crazy, but when I step on that scale and see results... and I'm able to eat be full and not feel guilty about it... that is the best thing about this expierence for me.
Everyone has to make the decision on thier own... but I won't lie to you and tell you it is a walk in the park... and there were self doubts for me... but they ended up being pushed aside by the good things I was expierencing

I didn't have one moment when I regretted it,and i'm 5 months out.
Part of that is because of associated health problems that were resolved totally by the surgery, and part of that is just being happy to be a normal size in clothes (health and ego, hand in hand).
In response to your very normal feelings, I always say that I go with my instincts. If it feels right, do it. If it doesn't - whether it's fear or doubt - then don't do it. We're all different. It's not a right or wrong - it's just what you think is right for yourself.

Always the hold out vote......
Yes I regret the surgery... use the search function for my old posts and you'll figure out why for yourself. If I had it to do over again I'd run quickly to the nearest gym, shut my mouth and stop eating so damn much food and educate myself of what the food I do eat is doing to my body.
Another regular poster on this board Janie, is currently in the hospital for a reversal. She is doing oaky so far. I am sceduled for a reversal on 10/15 and I"m cautiously optomistic this will help me get back to some semblance of normal....
That said... there are far more success stories on this board than complications gone crazy. Decide what's best for you.

Before surgery I had the same apprehension you had. I also am a single mother of two daughters (10 and almost 12) and my biggest fear was I'd die on the table (although the likelihood was very low). I did psych myself up though by reminding myself what a more active and involved parent I could be when I was fit and healthier and how I'd participate more as I'd not be ashamed to go to the 'wave pool' in a bathing suit with my kids, etc.
My only advice for you is make sure you have a strong network on support. I did this 'on my own'. The only person who knows I had the surgery is my boyfriend. I flew to NYC myself and no one came with me.... that was a mistake, I did end up calling my bf and he flew in just two days after as I really needed that support.
My only regret is that I did not have the surgery sooner. At 42 I wonder how my life may have been different if I'd had the surgery at a younger age. Again, I am only 6 weeks out (as of this coming Thursday) and I have not had any complications.
Best of luck to you with your decision.
Kimberly
