I am sad to hear about your complications, but I am glad that you are sharing this with people who are considering the issues. I am about half ways through the process and still not sure about going for it for the same reasons you specified in the forum. I am scared of the risks, hidden risks, and actual doctor support. Up front the surgery sounds great and the doctors give you some negative issues but not the real deal. I thank you and applaud you for sharing your experience with us in order for the rest of us to make this serious decision. I wish the best of luck and hope you reach your goals.

Default geez... I'm supposed to stay off here....lol

Trying to keep you people safe from my terminal crankiness!

It had the gastric stapling with the ring to restrict flow...

It was a great surgery and I had minimal complications for the 1st 15 years. Occasionally I would vomit but only after eating the wrong foods... there were only 2: raw carrots without dip and rice or if I ate to much.... I'd say only 3 or 4 times a year.

Then I got very sick with a flu and vomitted for days, they think that's when I opened the staple line. I also took steriods that year. I slowly gained about 30 pounds over a period of 9 month and then in 3 more months gained another 60... it was not fun.

What was your first surgery?

I had a vertical banded gastroplasty in 1988....stomach stapled vertically to make a pouch, and then a silastic ring poked through the stomach tissue. The idea was for food to stay in the pouch, then leak down through the ring to my normal duodenum . Here's a diagram....

I was successful for about 6 years...then my staple line broke...

Goal! I did it!
103 pounds gone since my RNY
117 total pounds gone forever!
I finally have a "normal" BMI
Reached my first goal of 145...and setting a new one of 135.
Reached 135 and have decided to lose another five if I can.

I'm in the 130's for the first time since puberty!
