Return of my hunger crept up on me at about 6 or 7 months. Now I do get hungry, but I can also go for 7 or 8 hours, feel kinda woozy, and then suddenly realize that I forgot to eat! It goes in cycles. For me personally, I remind myself of a couple basics:
1) Protein. It's dense and it fills you up quickly, and it takes a while to digest.
2) Water. Drink it like it's going out of style! Sometimes hunger pains are actually thirst. You won't be able to gulp it down like the old days, but sip it constantly and especially 45 minutes before your meal.
3) Snacking. If you must snack, make sure you don't fall into the old habit of bad snacks. There is such a thing as healthy snack. Be ready with stuff on hand so you don't have to rely on a vending machine. Those things are evil!

Jeanie pretty much has it. Eat several small heathy meals a day. It's a little hard at first because it does seem like grazing. Keep it healthy tho. Protein, fuits and whole grain. I rarely get hungry and it's simply because I don't allow myself too. Sometimes I get caught unprepared but it's rare. Those are the times I make the worst food choices. Sometimes because there isn't anything else available and sometime just because my head isn't right. When I say poor food choices I mean fast food or sun chips. I eat about 6 times a day every 2-3 hours. I try to keep the caloric in take to about 200 each session. Sometimes it's more or less but that's the general guidline for me.

What I do is say that I drink an 8-16 oz glass of water or tea. If I am still hungry after that I allow myself a small healthy snack. If I am not, then I don't eat, period. I know it sucks to have an appetite back. Are you sure it is not head hunger? Just wondering, because it does seem a little premature for your real hunger to come back. However, like Dara said everyone is different. And darn it you don't want to win the prize for being hungry the fastest do you? I"m sorry you are going through this. Just know that you can get through it. You will do just great.. we have faith.. now you need to have faith in yourself and your pouch..
You're going to do just fine.. (((((((BIG HUGS)))))))))) headed your way..

I am only 6 1/2 weeks out and I am hungry, not all the time like I was prior to surgery but ever couple of hours I feel like I could eat a buffet but of course I can't. I stick to my 1/4 to 1/2 cup rule. But the hunger for me is very real. I was hoping that I would not be hungry after surgery but I am. But I am doing a lot of exercising about 45 min to 1 hour a day of walking which is probably making me hungrier that I would be is were not exercising. I am not worried about this hunger, I am feeding it with protein. I pretty much eat my 50 grams of protein a day. It takes me ALL DAY and sometimes I just can't do it. And there are still day for me when I can not eat at all. Nothing wants to go down and stay down. Then there have been days when I forget to eat which is bad. I know that I have to keep putting fuel in in order to burn fat.
Christina, Thank you so much for the suggestion about drinking when you thingk you hungry. I do that some times but I need to do it more. I love to have a nice hot cup of good tea and it usually make the hunger go away. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

Thanks for everyones suggestions, I have been reading them and digesting them everyday since I posted this thread. Since I met with all of you last week I learned a very intersting piece of the pie that may also be the culprit. Acid stomache. My doctor never put me on any acid reducers, and I heard from Rain that it is part of your post of regimine. I always have a gnawing acidy stomache, which I have been thinking I need to feed it to settle it down. Now maybe I am thinking it is the acid stomache that I am feeling all the time, that I am thinking is hunger. I called my doc and got a prescription for Prilosec. I have never taken anything like this before (never had anything wrong with my stomache!) and I noticed that it doesnt really work that fast. Does it take a few days before it kicks in?? I started taking it on Saturday, and I have noticed my acid feeling is getting better, but not totally. That is another reason why water hasnt worked for me either, everytime I drink water as soon as it passes my stomache, my stomache aches even more. The same with protein. But it never aches or feels empty or acidy when I eat carby things like crackers, or bread sticks. So this has really added to my frustration and my dilemna. The things that make my tummy feel the best are not the things I should be eating~

we can eat alot more carbohydrates then dense protein for sure, that is when you have to force yourself to do the protein first, then if you have room try the crackers. I love bean with bacon soup and a few crackers. I usually take about 3 or 4 spoonfulls of the soup and add some water to make it the thickness I want. Beans are a great source of protein. I depend on them.
