Talking Take All Your Meds No Matter What!!

Ok guys let me tell you anyone who is looking into this surgery or just had this surgery needs to make sure you are taking all your meds. I was really slacking on mine over the last couple of months because of feeling so well and all. Well needless to say on Tuesday I was put in the hospital because I developed an ulcerous in my pouch. They kept me until yesterday afternoon and now I have to go back to see Dr. Potts and get a check up. This was not fun I had to be put on all kinds of things for the pain and because my blood work was low on a lot of things.

THE WHOLE POINT OF MY STORY IS MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR MEDS DO NOT MISS A DOSE

What meds were you on that you missed, to make you so sick? I am just curious. I havent taken any meds since I had my surgery (I did take some pain meds initially) ~ only vitamin suppliments.

Our Dr has us on Actigal (sp?) and Antacid. I had also been missing vitamins so my vitamin levels were low and that added to the weak and tired fill.

Yes take the meds, I did get an ulcer too, but I had been taking my meds. The actigal is important for your gallbladder. Kelly told us to take a prenatal vitamin, thats what I take. And of course our acid blocker, I take aciphex, then the vit b-12 sublingual. Others have another list of supplements that they take. Barbara takes several, check with her. I had a hard time trying to get the pills done for some time, and was an issue. That is why Kelly gave me the go ahead for 2% milk so early on. We all make mistakes along our journey, that is okay, as long as we acknowledge the fact, and do our best to correct them.

Like drinking with our meals, not saying you can't, we know we shouldn't, (I have to sometimes) but the key is to know that "We know" we shouldn't, and that drinking with our meal isn't dangerous to our health. The fact is though that drinking with our meal is dangerous for OUR weightloss. This soon out, you should try your very best to not drink with your meal. IT SLOWS THE WEIGHT LOSS DOWN. You do not want to slow your weight loss down now. It is up to us how much we want ot lose or how fast. It is going to come off fast no matter what you do at this point in the game. But if you stay in the habit of drinking with your meal, you will never get the pouch rules for dummies to work for you. Just my opinion, I had lost over 83 pounds at 3 months post op, and I believe it was the drking rules, I stuck to them completely. Sometimes I wouldn't eat just so I could drink.

I want you all to achieve the great success that I have. I cannot express the wonderful feeling of being petite once again. You may see me post about the coffee and other treats that I do, but that came alot later, I stuck to my program totally, I didn't break the rules, I waited along time to even use splenda, I drank only propel or crystal light for 8 months. I think I had like one sugar wafer about 6 months out that made me sick, but I did what I was supposed to do. If you don't do what you are supposed to do, you will not have long term success.

Hugs,

Traci

Cha Cha, Additionally if you dont take your vitamins EVERY DAY you can face other things such as peroneal nueropathy which is numbness and tingling in the legs, arms, and hands or even as extreme as blindness. Taking the multi vitamins is THE most important thing you can do for yourself. Always take them, and have your blood work done at leat twice a year to make sure you are not defficient either, there is always the chance you may have to take more or add additional supplements!

Tonya, sorry to hear about your episode sugar pea! Best wishes babygirl!

Unhappy Poor Girl

Oh Tonya!

You poor thing! I'm so sorry to hear you were hospitalized. Feeling bad enough to be in the hospital is NOT fun at all. The good news is that you're better and now you'll take all your supplements every day! Woo hoo!

The rule of taking supplements is so scary to me...I'm completely religious about taking them. I never miss a day, no matter what. I've heard the horror stories about ulcers and even worse things. I remember Woody's post about his wife and the problem she developed in her BRAIN because she did not take her supplements!

My biggest fear is developing an ulcer because I take Ibuprofen occasionally. I HAVE to take the Ibuprofen at least once a month because of severe cramps (God, menopause PLEEEEEASE!!). But I try to listen to what my stomach tells me and, if it feels funny, I try to make certain I feed it soothing foods.

Thanks for your post and your wake-up call to us. I'm so glad you're feeling okay now. Take good care of yourself!

Default Meds and Vitamins

You guys have heard my speach before, but here it goes.....

Vitamin deficiency is the #1 long term side effect of WLS.
It is important to follow the orders of your Doctor and Nurses (Kelly). The Actigall is to prevent gallstones.
The Acid blocker (Rantadine) is to prevent ulcers.

The side effects of vitamin deficiency sneeks up on you and can be devastating. You can go blind, be crippled, loose you mind...die! We have to take these suppliments for the rest of our lives that is a commitment to our health that we have to make. Just because we get to a normal weight does not mean that we are normal.

Now....everybody out there knows whether or not they are doing what they should. Check yourself and if you are not taking your meds or your vitamins, get on it. And have your blood levels checked at least once a year for the rest of your life to detect any deficiencies.

Speech over....
Love you guys!

I notice all you guys talk about taking something for acid.. like aciphex. I am 11 weeks out and my perscription ended about 2 weeks ago. Should I call for a new one? I just assumed that I didnt need it anymore, if there werent any refills. How long have you all been taking meds for that?
