Kasey, first of all I would call your Doctor to see what he thinks is going on. I do know that sometimes, with the fast weight loss, some people do report extremely painful torso cramps. That isn't something I've ever experienced but I have heard about them. I have read that my surgeon feels it is a phenomenon that is most likely from calcium or magnesium shifts associated with weight loss. Spasms are the final result, can be significant, and are most often noticed in the legs and at the lower edge of the ribcage.

If you experience these severe cramps putting a heating pad in the area may be of some benefit. Also alternating heat and cold has been found to help some. It is also suggested that you lay on your left side, curled in a ball and try to relax. Also take frequent small sips of water. If the pain continues you will need to seek medical attention.

Kasey, I'm not sure if this is what was going on with you. It could have been but you really should call your doctor to notify him of the pain that you experienced. There also are several other things that could be causing pain, for example, your gallbladder....sooooo...

CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!

I agree with you Jen. That title, or similar ones always make me cringe. If it's that bad you should be in the ER!

ok so i spent last night in the er. With a doc with that was so knowledgeable(not) all he did was a ct to rule out kidney stones and sent me home with the advice contact your bypass dr and here is some pain meds. It's like i have the plague or something. Why is it all doc seem scared of bypass patients. As far as the pain well it's still here. As soon as doc's office opens i'm calling. Thanks for all your support.

I'm with you on this one. Sounds a lot like my gall-bladder pain. Worst pain I have ever had. Usually comes on at night and lasts for hours. The next day it usually subsided to a dull ache. Felt like someone ran a six inch pipe through me just under my sternum, straight through my back.

I went to the doctor for it and they had a hard time diagnosing it because I was too large for the ultrasound to work well. They mis-diagnosed it and I lived with it for years. One night I was up with it and started reading around on the internet and became very certain that it was my gall bladder so I went back to the doctor and they did another ultrasound. They found I was full of stones.

My surgeon told me that WLS patients have gall stones very frequently after weight loss, so if it even twitches while he's in there, he'll take it out. (At that point, I didn't have it anymore, but he took Jane's out while he was in there.)

Definitely get to your surgeon soon. I lived with that pain for many years and you don't have to if it is your gall bladder. If it is something else, your doc can figure it out.

Best wishes!!!
