Handstitched or staples?
Couple of questions for y'all - and I know you're all the experienced ones! I notice that some doctors use staples on the pouch, some do not... pros and cons re: stitched vs. stapled?

Hmmmm... None of the ones I looked into used stitches. All of them used staples, so I can't help a lot. The staple device makes the cut and staples it at the same time. From what I have read, the staples are very reliable. I wish I could help more.

Stapled is the current standard. Handsewn is more old school, but one is not proven better over the other. You just need a surgeon that has done tons in whatever fashion has proven successful for them. You wouldn't want them to change their technique to something they aren't comfortable with...that is when mistakes happen.

I have staples inside and even the outside...when my Lap staples on my stomache were removed the Dr. used Dermabond (superglue for skin) instead of thread.
I think it is pretty cool seeing the staples on an xray...what was not cool was seeing my breast tissue hanging where is was

LOL Vanessa. I am assuming because of the size and sag already that I will definitely be having at least a lift done when this ride is over, if not more!
I have decided to go with Dr. C, and I know he does staples - no big deal, was just curious. I called today for my appointment but they were moving offices and won't get back to me until Monday.
Thanks everyone for your input!

My surgeon staples the stomach, but he hand sews the anastomoses with disposable stitches, because he says doing it this way helps prevent small ulcers from occuring around the staple holes.

Goal! I did it!

117 total pounds gone forever!
I finally have a "normal" BMI
Reached my first goal of 145...and setting a new one of 135.
Reached 135 and have decided to lose another five if I can.
I'm in the 130's for the first time since puberty!

I was hand-stiched inside and out also used durma-bond on the outside. My stiches on the outside were actually under my scar so they were disolving ones. I have had no problems at all.-

Karen,
Good choice with Dr. Callery! Ask him to show you the tool they use that staples. It's pretty cool and he got all excited showing my husband and I. Funny!
