I wouldnt worry too much about after foods.. you wont know what you want or can eat until you are there. I had a variety of different protein shakes, because my nutritionist requires those starting day 2... other than that.. I took the list of food my nut. gave me and picked out a couple things after I got home.

Hello!
Congratulations on your upcoming WLS!!!
Some things that worked for us include:
* A baby food grinder to grind everything up for the first weeks.
* Canned chicken
* Salmon
* Tuna
* Eggs
* Peanut Butter
* Applesauce in little cups (no sugar added)
* Bananas
* Sugar Free Pudding
* Sugar Free Popsicles
* Canned carrots
* Canned green beans
* Protein Powder to make protein drinks. I still have one for breakfast every day.
If you are having open (not laparoscopic) then I would also recommend a raised toilet seat. You can buy them at Wal-Mart for about $20 bucks. It's plastic and requires no tools to install. It was really great not having to do deep knee bends to use the bathroom with the incision.

First things first-- DON'T STOCK UP ON A LOT OF ANYTHING. Even assuming that you will like the food and be able to tolerate it post-op (no guarantees there), you will only be able to consume such tiny quantities that you don't NEED a lot. For instance, a single-serving container of cottage cheese was TWO meals for me in the first 2 weeks after surgery... so you don't need to be getting huge quantities of stuff.
Also, since most of the protein supplements are milk-based, have a back-up protein plan if you find that you are lactose-intolerant after surgery. I was, so the usual Carnation NSA CIB was out of the question.
Early on, the staples for me were:
--Protein supplements (My fave were the New Whey vials)
--Cottage & ricotta cheese
--FF refried beans
--Egg Beaters
--SF jello
--SF ice pops (although I didn't really like them post-op, lots of others do)
--SF pudding
--Fat-free powdered milk (can add to stuff for added protein)
--Canned broth (chicken, beef, veggie, etc.)
--LF Canned soups that you can strain or puree
--LF cheese sticks
--LF/FF shredded cheese (for adding to eggs, refried beans, etc.)
--Canned tuna, chicken, etc.
--LF/FF mayo (for mixing tuna/chicken salads)

I was on clear liquids for two weeks post op. It was jello, broth, tea, decaf coffee, sf popsicles. My cheat was a fudcicle.
I did make my own broth pre op and it made it much tastier and less like hospital boullion.
I bought an egg drop soup at 12 days out and it was heaven.
Don't get much of anything. You will feel up to going to the store and get what strikes you at the time.
I would just have plenty of splenda around to mix your own sf unsweetend drinks to your liking as your tastes will change.

I found this link to a site that has guidelines for the post-op diet in 4 stages. http://www.stronghealth.com/services...atric/diet.cfm Scroll down til you see diet #1, diet #2, etc. I'm pre-op myself and this looks like a good GUIDELINE to reference while keeping in mind my own surgeon's instructions. Good luck to you! Keep us posted on your progress.

I used that too.. One of the girls in my support group says that strong doesnt use those anymore.. (She has her surgeon/surgery there).. but.. they are good guidelines. LOL.. I wonder if strong has any idea how many times that has been posted on this forum!
