Default okay now i'm really scared

I have been dead set on having this surgery for sometime now and to help keep me focused i come to "listen" to what all of you wonderful people are doing. My other support site i like to visit AFTER here is obesityhelp.com and there is a memorial thread that has people who have died for various reasons. I've been ignoring, but still curious abuot. Well last night that ended when i explored thoughs pages and the stories. Man i'm so scared my life is not to great and with my weight now i'm going have some serious health issues SOON, i feel it in my knees already and i'm 24. Not to mention I don't think i'd be able to get pregnant again if i didn't some SOME weight. But most of all i'm very unhappy with myself like this. it effects all of my life and i don't want to be like this for my son. I want to be healthy and live long and have him be proud of me. i don't know thank you for hearing me

Smile I was scared too

Hi Jessica,

I am over two months out and I remember being scared. I think being scared is so very normal. You are planning to have major surgery. WLS is a major life change. Reschear your doctors and talk to people who had their WLS for your doctors.

Start how to prepare for surgery. Eat healthy, walk alot and drink a ton a water. The more you perpare your body for surgery the fast your recovery time.

Most of all this is a personal choice, to have WLS or not. If you are too scared maybe you should wait until the time is right, no shame in waiting.

Warm regards,

Cat_Lover

Jessica, I know the memorials you are talking about on obesityhelp.com, and I think it is totally inappropriate to have that on a wls support forum.

Your surgeon will tell you his own particular statistics, and what the national statistics are - and the risks percentages are going down drastically in the last months. The reason for that is that many surgeons put into place during the process a number of preventatives. For example, my surgeon had me have an x-ray of my pouch (using a dye/liquid that I swallowed) before i could even have an ice cube touch my lips. The reason? To determine if there were any leaks. And there are processes in place during the surgery to prevent leaks. I am using leaks as an example of serious risk. These preventive measures didn't exist in previous years to the degree that they do now.

Having said that, I agree with Cat_Lover. Being prepared is an important part of the process of pre-op. You have to prepare your mind as much as your body for this life-changing event. If fear is ruling you now, then perhaps it would be better to take a breath, and absorb the process a bit first.

The very best of luck to you! If only I was 24 again!

I think being scared is part of the whole process. I have been on obesityhelp.com and if you read those post, lots of those people died in car accidents or of caner. Those who died due to complications had a bmi of 50 or more. Some do not even state the cause of death. You do need to ask the office of their stats regarding death. I did, and I think most of us did. This was such a big process for me and I asked many, many questions. I think you need to in order to feel at peace with your own life and the choices you are going to make. Good luck to you!
